Gonna be a long summer of rumours lids.
Like you say goal.com

True - but do a search of any other clubs on NewsNow or alike and there will be similar peddled stories regarding their best players to keep the punters pressing F5 through the long summer !

I took a photo with him outside Goodison and then told him that he was the next Everton captain for sure. He replied with a wide smile, "Yeah, hopefully!"

Moral: He isn't leaving. His agent can do one! (y)

Problem is Barry is playing McCarthy's role - May be he will go about his contract was he not asked last year and put us off?

Totally disagree. McCarthy is at his best as a box-to-box player. His energy and athleticism would be completely wasted in the "Barry role" as he wouldn't be able to charge around winning the ball back, he would have to be disciplined. I think the end of this season saw how effective he can be when the shackles come off to an extent.

On top of that, McCarthy doesn't have the class on the ball that Barry does and our "play out from the back" style would suffer as a result.

Two goals in two season is not a box to box midfield player, I am sure he could do what Barry does and have the energy to get box to box why do we need two defensive mid-fielders as he spends his time helping out the very slow Barry!
I like him , but I feel Barry is cramping his style as last year unfortunately for us it was one season too many for Barry, maybe Besic with quicker movement may a better option that Barry letting McCarthy do his work in the opposition box?

Like all American's, my viewpoint should be immediately suspect, but I think Martinez sees McCarthy staying in his current role with Besic as his understudy. I think he wants to rotate Barry and Gibson in that position to keep them both healthy and contributing. And I think Martinez sees Cleverly as somebody who can provide a tactical rotation with Barkley resting or sitting deeper as well as somebody who will permit Martinez to play different systems. I honestly think Cleverly's signing impacts Osman and Naismith more than anybody else.

If Gibson stays healthy and can rotate with Barry to keep Barry's legs fresh, Cleverly shouldn't have to ever play a holding role.

McCarthy isn't going anywhere.

Gibson stays healthy

That's a big if.

His agent is wanting some money cause he's bankrupt. Lad has no intention of leaving, but, we do need to sort his contract out. Was promised a wage increase when he signed (which hes earned) and Cleverley comes in a is immediately on more.

To be fair, two of McCarthy's goals came late last season after his change in role

Barry certainly benefits from having him in the side, but sticking McCarthy (or Besic at the moment) back in the defensive midfield role would rob us of distribution. Neither McCarthy nor Besic are particularly strong on the passing front.
