James McCarthy

Doubt he wants out but probably is after a pay rise. These stories have been knocking around ever since Barkley signed a new one and Rom joined last summer. Not a surprise he wants parity...with Barkley at least, given their relative contributions over the season.

Not that he wants parity or a pay rise, the lad simply wants what he was promised. Dont know why the Club are so reluctant to give him it. Its ridiculous. You cant promise something, then not do it.

Can't understand the management mindset here .. What did they think james would say when tom cleverly who is nowhere near as good as james comes in on more money than him ... ??? Crazy !

......players sign contracts when they agree terms. McCarthy agreed a contract that he is still subject to. The fact that others come in on more or less money will happen. The situation with MCCarthy appears to relate to promises of a new contract with enhanced terms.

Cleverly didn't cost 12m to sign, he turned down an 8m transfer to sign on a free, he deserves a bit extra in his wage.

But if a promise was made to him then we should honour it.

that's where the signing on fee comes in though. McCarthy was signed in the last hours of the window on a hastily put together contract. Both sides wanted the move to go ahead so it was decided that he'd sign and there would be a proper 'increased' contract once he established himself in the first team. Depending on who you believe he's on £25,000-£38,000 a week currently in comparison to Barry/Cleveley who are on £50,000-£75,000 again depending on who you believe.
James is just after the original contract adjustment he was promised (unless you disagree as the club obviously do that he's established himself in the first team).

As I said, if promises were made we should honour them, I'm sure it's a storm in a teacup, it will get sorted out.

No one knows if he was promised anything. He'll already be on a fair whack anyway. Hes got 3 years left not arsed, start looking at a new contract towards the end of the coming season.

I'm fairly certain it was reported at the time or else nobody would remember it.
fair whack or not, it's potentially half of what everyone else in the midfield is getting, a bit of an insult no?
would you like to be paid half of what everybody else gets for the same job?

Indeed. I don't think it's much of a coincidence that he's away with Ireland at the moment and probably ignoring all press. Almost certainly his agent rattling a few sabres while he's away, I don't think there'd be any chance of James saying he wants to go, not his style, he's always been very cautious and planned so far in his career.

He signed for 13 mil and is so so highly regarded by roberto, the contract wouldve factored that in.

No chance hes on half of most of the squad he'll easily be around the 50 mark which is plenty for the minute, look at sorting him out towards the end of the season.

Once again, cant remeber it being reported by anyone credible that he was promised anything, this desperately reeks of a scumbag agent in need of money trying to make his commission, either through a transfer or a new contract
