Would agree with @mkrudden, he needs goals and assists in his game. Sometimes he can be too static in midfield, he should be bombing forward a lot more with his pace and energy. Sometimes I see glimpses of Keane in him, he's got to show more of that this season.

Shoot me down my fellow blues, but this season he's got to add 5 or 6 goals, and try and break beyond Lukaku like Ramsey does with Giroud.
I love McCarthy, but we need more from him, a lot more.

to be fair he has been carrying old man Barry around on his shoulders for the last two seasons.
Bobby has already said he wants to free him up to get forward more and he did it to a certain extent towards the end of last season to reasonable effect.
Will just have to see how it goes I suppose.

The second half of last season when he was given a bit more freedom to break forward he looked like he had a few goals in him, think he might grab a few next year

For One season last year. Barrys first season he was brilliant

I hate Spurs the way a lot on here hate the barcodes! They are such wannabee's who are surrounded by clubs whose history and success they will never match! that arrogant rude Levy thinks they have the same pulling power as Arsenal? The deluded, scrawny arsed, scabby faced, pencil necked, scrotal bulge!!

Like the statement from Bobby about building team around him. Hopefully give him the confidence to kick on this season and add goals to his game.
Think hes been told behind closed doors that his contract will be improved so I doubt hes worried. Papers have a lot to answer for when trying to unsettle players to fill up the back pages.
@TrixyStevens I agree with. Can see Keane in him alright. Gets his goals and ability to grab a game by the neck then we will be laughing!!

Thing is, history and success don't pay players wages.

At the end of the day, that's all the majority of players are concerned about , not history. When they move into their new stadium they will be on the way to leaving us behind in the dirt.

Sad but true.

IMO he hasn't got that in him at the top level. He's much more a Matic type player than a cm who attacks. Should be our dedicated DM. Guarantee if he left for Spurs or city, that's where he'd play.

It would be a positive for him to improve that side of his game, but Roy Keane rarely scored. I think people are placing too much importance on goal scoring. It's not his main job to score goals, it's to prevent them, and to break up the play and start us off on attacks. We have the likes of Barkley for bombing forwards from the half way line and aiming to score more.

Look at Keane's scoring record. The most league goals he scored in one season was 6 early on, then he got 5 twice, and other than that it was around 2 or 3, which is what McCarthy achieved last season.

A lot of the other great players in McCarthy's position didn't score goals either. Makelele scored twice for Chelsea in the league in 5 seasons, Matic has scored once.
