Did anyone on here ever see Paul Bracewell play?

He was the oil in the engine.

Not fast but determined.

Hardly ever in the final third but effective.

Sometimes the most important players are hardly noticed until they're not there.

That will be McCarthy's role I reckon.

The tragedy is that some people just don't get it and want 10 Ross Barkleys in the outfield.

Top player was bracewell, the like of which ALL the best teams had/have the player who goes unnoticed until their not their and nothing the team does goes as well, he did nearly knock me over in his motor though ;p

I remember when we signed Bracewell ,I didnt understand why we bought him then watched him in the first game ( the charity shield I think) and you could see right away he was a masterstoke.

Have to admit that when Wigan came to goodison i'd always look out for Mccarthy because of the way some people banged on about him. However from what i saw, he didnt have anything extra special in his game. He went about his business with simple sort passes. Whether this was effective I dont know.

I havent judged him at all though. I actually cant wait to see what all the fuss is about . Personally id like to see Barry and Gibson in the centre when both fit. With Ross the Boss pushing on!

Really looking forward to James McCarthy being an Everton regular for years to come.

Young enough to have vast improvement in him and already considered to be very good.

Not even arsed what the fee was, if he stays 5 years it will be peanuts.

I think that at Everton we will see McCarthy play a different role to the one he played at Wigan.
At Wigan the options open to RM were limited and McCarthy played a role that was certainly more defensive than attacking. He anchored the midfield and tried to dictate the game the Wigan played from there. At Wigan the manager had limited option on how to organise his team. That is not meant to be disrespectful, but I think it is true.

At Everton , after the recent window, McCarthy will face a very different role at Everton. We now have two players in Gibson and Barry who will take the defensive role in central midfield leaving McCarthy more freedom to play a box to box role.

In Ireland we have a manager that would play the game without any midfielders if he could , don't forget that Gibson could not get a game ahead of Keith Andrews which says a lot.
