James McCarthy

The last couple of games my one criticism was that we seemed unsure when passing out from the back. But tonight it looked like Barry, and on a more long term basis, McCarthy could be the answer to that

That is a boss point Superhans1878, he is getting to play alongside Barry who he will learn tons off. All part of Roberto's masterplan!

Yep was brilliant tonight. RM mentioned something in the press about us fans noticing his importance when he's not in the team, after watching him tonight I can see what he means. He just goes about his job quietly and efficiently. The amount of little balls he turned round the corner for Barkley was very impressive.

He's 22, Barkley 19... Very promising for the future midfield set up.

Absolutely, said the same to my dad. Barry is the key to it all, I can see why Martinez was desperate to get him. He is extremely brave and calm on the ball, will get it off Howard or the centre halves under pressure and starts our attacks. McCarthy (understandably) is a little less brave, a little more cautious, but he grew into the game and was very impressive second half. From what I've seen so far there is no better mentor on playing that role than Barry, so we are very lucky to have him. McCarthy will be a much better player in 12 months' time.

I thought those passes were excellent and Ross seemed to be alert to them. Looks like they may have been working on them types of balls during training and looks like it could be a fruitful understanding developing.

barry and barkley are key to bobbys style of play we lose either we will struggle unless bobby can change the style if that happens.

Really liked McCarthy today, very smart player, full of energy and keeps the ball moving. He just goes about his stuff quietly and he is a very good complement to our other CMs.
What I really liked about him is that he knows when to play it safe and simple and when to be more direct and take risks with his passing. Looking forward to watch him develop and put his stamp into games.
