James McCarthy

The second yellow wasn't much of a foul but as people have said, he'd committed a few by that point.

That's a few games in a row now where in the first twenty minutes, he gets right up alongside Lukaku, harassing and tackling.... then that's it, he completely empties out. He looks massively unfit, which now leaves him half a yard behind the play, which then leads to him fouling rather than getting the ball cleanly.

Needs taking out of the team for a while.

I'm not his biggest fan SD not by a long shot but I think we may be needing him as a centre back Saturday. Worse players than him tonight ( as in he gets a 3 and others get a 2 )

I'd literally rather have any of the youth players on the park than this spineless crab. How is McCarthy a better CB than Galloway Holgate Pennington etc.? Even Hibbert would be better.

Galloway injured, Holgate too lightweight ( imo at this stage of his career and not ready for Saturday ) and Pennington ( who I would have in ) is on loan and I'm not sure we have a recall option mate.

Not saying James was great, I think he's been pretty crap for 2 years apart from the odd game mate

100%. Doesn't seem to bring anything to the table. I'd rather give Davies gametime over playing him every week.

I'm not doing a "I told you so" thing here, and I was happy to be apparently proven wrong after his great start at Everton... but when he signed I was against it because I'd seen a bit of him at Wigan and I couldn't figure out what the hell he did. He was passive in every single game I saw him in, and was often a liability. When we splashed £15m on him I couldn't believe it.

But now I'm in the weird position of having to admit he's capable of being absolutely brilliant, but knowing I've seen him be this James McCarthy before, so it doesn't surprise me.

He's basically Martinez on the pitch - one great season, two bad ones, was generally crap at other clubs but occasionally did something well, like win the FA Cup.

Completely anonymous. Where's the McCarthy of the first season when he tackled everything that moved?

Oh, that's right. Still riding on the back of Barry, whose legs have gone and can't carry JM anymore.

I seem to remember people saying he did two player's jobs (last season people slating Barry). People are starting to realise that it's always been the other way round.

He can have brilliant performances but the idea that we've spent £30m on him and Niasse combined is RS-esque.
