I'm willing o see see of Koeman can get more out of him. Under Martinez he had to slow the game down and pass the ball back and not lose possession. Under Koeman we willl be more quicker at attacking and Koeman doesn't like passing back for the sake of it and likes to attack kquicke then Martinez did and this might suit James more.

Bit of guesswork but I reckon Koeman will keep Ross AM, love Besic so get him in the team, and then buy a top CM like Witsel to go alongside him.

That leaves Barry, McCarthy and Gibson. Only one there you'd get a fee for would be James, and after 2 poor season and this even poorer euros he's on thin ice at best. I'd rather sell him and replace him to be honest, now we have some money. Barry is still class and can do a job. Gibson still exists somehow too.

This lad has gone backwards. Looks bereft of confidence. Seems to charge around like a headless chicken. A walking yellow card. It'll be a challenge to get him at it again. As someone said earlier - whats his actual best position. Barry, despite his age and slowness, does a better job. Besic and even Cleverley pass it forwards when they can. With Martinez gone, McCarthy has a job on to impress Koeman I'd say.

You could be right, but like I say the best of him was a long time ago and after watching him yesterday having a nightmare I doubt it.

He's quite tactically aware (more than me anyway on other clubs) so I'd be interested in how he thinks Koeman will use what he's got.

I've honestly got no idea on Southamptpn really. Koeman seemed to move between two defensive midfielders in a team and one creative mid with one defensive mid. I am hoping he will build our midfield around Barkley and Besic but it is interesting to see Gibson getting a two year deal and names like Witsel and Strootman linked. Would all point to at least one if not both Barry and McCarthy being under threat.
