He's got no ability on the ball. Doesn't matter how much he runs around like a headless chicken (and gives away silly free kicks).

If we want to move on as a club we need our players to be able to play. Even our defensive midfielders.

There is no intelligence to his game. He reminds me of Gravesen before Moyes worked out how to use him properly. The problem for McCarthy is that he doesn't have any of Gravesen's creative skill, and he is a crap defensive midfielder. No club with realistic ambitions of qualifying for Europe would be interested in him.

Our main concern is CM. That's why I hope Koeman goes for Witsel and Strootman as solution.

I think McCarthy is ok as a DM at least he sometimes did alright in breaking up play. His main problem is that he can't/barely make forward pass. Whenever he gets the ball he passes it backward or sideway. No movement at all. We cannot rely on him to distribute the ball or make killer pass if needed. In modern football I think you need to attack and defence, as to prove you are an all round complete midfielder. I will definitely keep him as a squad player but not a starter if we are aiming anything higher than 7th.

I certainly agree that CM is our main concern. Our options are pitiful in that area of the park. McCarthy is only 'OK' if you are happy to plod along in midtable or worse. He's nowhere near the level of quality that is required if we want to achieve things.
