I certainly agree that CM is our main concern. Our options are pitiful in that area of the park. McCarthy is only 'OK' if you are happy to plod along in midtable or worse. He's nowhere near the level of quality that is required if we want to achieve things.

Barry will be phased out due to his age as backup. We sign two from the list includes Strootman, Witsel and Schneiderlin. McCarthy and Besic as backup too. Think we will be good this coming season.

There is no intelligence to his game. He reminds me of Gravesen before Moyes worked out how to use him properly. The problem for McCarthy is that he doesn't have any of Gravesen's creative skill, and he is a crap defensive midfielder. No club with realistic ambitions of qualifying for Europe would be interested in him.

As I've said numerous times, if we get a decent offer for him (£20m+) then I'd sell, no doubt. That's unlikely though so for the time being we're going to be keeping him so I say we give him chance to win us back around. Like so many of our players he badly needs to hear a fresh voice and be coached properly by a real manager. Granted he needs to massively improve a lot of aspects of his game but he also has qualities that have been forgotten/lost thanks to Martinez's awful handling. Let's see what Koeman thinks of him before we completely write off his Everton career.

Hopefully Koeman won't force him to do the running for old man Barry like Martinez did

He works better as a sole DM and does his job of breaking up play well

As for passing ability look at Makelele, one of the best DM in the league in his day and could hardly kick a ball. Not everyone needs to be messi
