James McCarthy

Works hard for the team when played as a DM but offers very little on the ball, seems very one dimensional.

He's a solid squad option behind Barry and Gana but I don't think we would miss him too much if he was sold.

I would rather have him in the squad than not . If your serious about challenging for the top you need a big squad. MacCarthy is a competent defensive mid. We need him as cover for injuries and perhaps to help shore up slender leads. He's just not an automatic starter for me. Who knows give him a season under Koeman and he may develop into the player we thought we had 1st season.

Given the fact that he has been played out of position and not in his real position means that the manager don't rate him in his proper place so if we sign another midfielder and Coleman is fit soon then he may be gone before the deadline. Rather keep him than CleV or Gibbo though.

Nah

Because he is a manager and whats he supposed to say - nah he's crap i want to sell him, or did he just give a stock managerial response to a player who may or may not move on this summer - he answer the opposite mate he has a player he can't use on his hands which would be pretty stupid.

He also said he has a plan B in case Lukaku moved on - which today showed that was just a palm the press off answer
He's got a player he cant use, but he's using him; he doesn't want him to be here, but he's stated he wants him to be here.

Maybe it's all reverse psychology eh?

How long did he last today Dave again before being hauled off?

and would he have played a minute this season if coleman had been fit?

Very sensible post.

He was hauled off as part of a rethink on the system - a rethink Koeman should never have had to make, btw (as he acknowledged himself afterward).

Obviously if Coleman is fit it has an affect on his appearance in that position. It's a ridiculous position to play him in though, but i suppose it gives an idea as to the faith RK wants to invest in him.

He wasn't happy was he?

That is to his credit.

We don't want players in the team whom are happy being substituted after half an hour :)

And I like the way Ronald spoke in self deprecating terms about the way the team should have been set up at the start.

Ronald tried a certain system, it wasn't working so he changed it.

James was the one who lost out when a natural target man intriduced and Del was moved out wide.

Where he belongs, IMO.....he is not cut out to be a lone striker
