Gareth Barry has been far better than McCarthy this season, in my opinion. If one of them is to be sacrificed for more creativity in the centre against the lesser teams then it should be McCarthy

McCarthy is a player for a team full of superstars so he can run around doing the dirty work and covering and sacrificing for them . offers nothing in creativity and going forward and is useless when chasing a game .

Give over. He was MOM against the World Champions 9 days ago and then played the full 90 in Warsaw 6 days ago and felt the pain of defeat and missing automatic qualification.

He'll be back to his normal self in no time.

As all season today he and Barry were non exsistent- no centre midfield other than RB! Overrun in midfield using two ineffective defensive midfielders beyond substitution?.?

i wouldn't say he's been poor every game this season but overall a poor start not to say it won't get better

but last nights performance deserves for him to be benched for gibson and eventually cleverley and have to fight for his place back.... completely flat flooted head rushing with anger from the first goal onwards and a complete lack of respect for the shirt... i was livid with him last night

but in saying that he is class and i'm sure it won't be long until he turns it around
