Our attack stops dead when he is on the ball. It's like we have to carry him going forward. If we had someone more creative there, our attacks would be so much more fluid. It's fine having him there to cover our fullbacks bombing on, but lately our fullbacks haven't been the creative outlet they once were so I think we are wasting a key creative position with him on the pitch.....I can't wait for not just Coleman and Baines to be back fit, but also in form, so that Maccas inclusion makes sense.

He needs to rediscover his form. Probably the worst player on the pitch yesterday. He looked transformed when he got forward more last season and I'd like to see that more.

Any Athlete can do that, I have seen players like him over the years who were bit part players - Tommy Jackson filling in for the great Alan Ball, Trevor Ross etc McCarthy has scored two goals in 2 seasons +- he has had a poor season since his contract rise!

hes not a 'superb' anything, on form hes a good player in terms of intercepting and providing cover for the full back. he'll never be a top draw defensive midfielder. i like him but hes overrated by a lot of blues because of his first season.

Fairly sure he was MOTM against the current world champions last week.

He has the odd bad game, yesterday was 1, but mostly hes very consistent, which is 1 of his strongest traits.

Hes a superb number 6, that stance isnt for changing.

He is incredibly overrated, and that's not just by Everton fans, opposition fans seem to laud him as well.

He's got a great engine on him, that's probably his biggest asset but playing him and Barry together doesn't half stifle our attack.

I think hes being tasked with a job hes not capable of doing.

Hence the change in his play.

I rate the lad highly, im not gonna pretend hes been amazing recently, but as a number 6 I rate him highly.

The problem is less to do with him and more the fact Martinez is insistent that him and Barry play as a duo.

The difficult start in terms of fixtures has masked this problem because there's a case to be made for having them in there for those games. It's your games like Sunderland at home where playing them together is nothing short of ridiculous.

agreed. in the first year it worked because baines and coleman were flying up the wing like wingers, now that opposing managers basically know what is coming and can double up out wide, its not working aswell. i wouldn't mind so much if he gave it 60 minutes and then took one of them off if we need a goal but hes only ever done it a handful of times.

Yeah, United played us perfectly yesterday, they were made up for Barry and McCarthy to have the ball.

It's times like that when you need Barkley in the middle to run with the ball from deep to open up the game.

Mother of God....as if "no.10" wasn't a silly enough manufactured position for the FM generation to spout, now we have lids talking about "no.8" and "no.6"

Just call them what they are......half backs and inside forwards.
