James McCarthy

I have no problem with McCarthy, as he doesn't do anything wrong really, but his flaw is he doesn't do anything right/creatively.

Barry, comparable by position, regularly gets about the pitch (despite being slow and 10+ years older) and wins the ball, and plays excellent passes to start an attacking move.

McCarthy on the other hand, will receive possession bring it out and pass it sideways. It's not a criticism of him as a player, it's just not what we need, nor what we're expecting since the arrival of gueye!

He really is the epitome of the Martinez regime; started off something magnificent, then flatted to deceive, and regularly frustrating.

Wish no harm for the lad.

That first season was special. Since then it's been a gradual decline, and I think he'd be benificial of moving on, before he stagnates further.

No mate

Absolutely, but he's what, 25/26 ?

So, if he thinks he's down the pecking order a bit, and sees playing regularly as more important than wages then, with an agent on a percentage whispering in his ear, he might be tempted to try somewhere else. Don't forget, it's not that long ago that there was reasonably reliable talk of him moving to Spurs before he got a new contract.

As it happens, if he needs even a minor op, then the chances of him leaving this Summer seem small, but, if he's not happy come January then I think he'll be gone.
Think playing time has always been important to James, iirc he resisted a move down from Scotland initially as he wanted to make sure he wasn't stuck on a bench. Doubt that has changed much even though he is older.

Will be tough on Coleman if he moves as they are close mates.

Groin according to the Echo.

Perfect assessment

I don't like the way we turn on our own players, McCarthy has done nothing wrong in terms of Everton. He isn't good enough to play for us anymore, that is not his fault. He is doing the descent thing for himself and the club and moving on. We get a fee he gets to play football.
A pity some more of our other playing staff don't take the same path and move on.

Lot of stories about this morning that he could be off.

Don't think we will suffer much of a loss if he goes, can't blame him either for wanting regular football. He is an honest 100% player but if we want to push on we need a bit more than he offers.

20m+ all day long in this market though, we won't be offloading him cheaply I'm sure.

Would rather ofload the likes of Gibson and Cleverly, papers saying he wants to leave it so he not bought into Koeman football or he just wants regular football and been told by Koeman that he not a first starter.

There is no way on God's earth that Celtic will part with £20m, their famous biscuit tin is still alive and kicking and they are very much a selling club, having David 'Brendan' Brent onboard has made no odds to that.
