I am talking about the supporters Tim, not the players.

Take it from me, you cross that river and go up the Falls Road or Andersonstown and you will find precious few people supporting NI.

And it is the same in the likes of Newry, Derry and other nationalist areas of the North.

There is overwhelming support for the Republic in the Catholic heartlands.

It is sad there is no consensus when it comes to the football but that's just the way it is :(

Yea it's a pity. But I do think there's more support for NI these days. I know that not just from anecdotal evidence but also experience. Had some great craic with republic fans in France too. I'm glad the anomosity isn't there anymore anyway ;)

I remember trying to explain sport in Ireland to an English friend. Complicated stuff lol

Don't recall him saying that. You must send me a link.

He may be referring to this letter McClean sent to the Wigan chairman about his decision to not wear the poppy,

'He wrote: 'For me to wear a poppy would be as much a gesture of disrespect for the innocent people who lost their lives in the Troubles – and Bloody Sunday especially - as I have in the past been accused of disrespecting the victims of WWI and WWII.

'It would be seen as an act of disrespect to those people; to my people.

'I am very proud of where I come from and I just cannot do something that I believe is wrong. In life, if you're a man you should stand up for what you believe in.'

I went to the Euros to watch both NI and the Republic, I tend to support both as I was born in Belfast. I think the NI team are getting more support from nationalists in NI and in Paris I only heard overtly Orange sectarian songs a couple of times. I have no doubt that the GAWA have done their bit in trying to knock sectarianism on the head.

We may or may not want to sell McCarthy but I think Koeman could make him a better footballer.

Transfer news: James McCarthy wants out of Everton but injury could hamper move
JAMES MCCARTHY will try and force a move from Everton before Wednesday’s deadline with champions Leicester joining the race for him.

James McCarthy has been told he is not for sale
McCarthy told manager Ronald Koeman in a face to face meeting last Friday that he wanted to leave because he fears he will not play regularly at Everton.

Everton are digging in and trying to keep McCarthy having already told the likes of Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Newcastle that the Republic of Ireland international is not for sale.

But Leicester are also now targeting McCarthy, who missed Saturday’s win over Stoke with a groin problem that Koeman claimed could require surgery.

Koeman has said he will not sell McCarthy, who joined Everton on deadline day from Wigan in 2013 for £14m, but admitted the player would have a say in his future.

“We would like to keep players, and we want James to stay but it is up to the player,” said Koeman.

McCarthy would cost around £20m.

Newcastle’s interest comes with Everton having tracked Moussa Sissoko during the summer, but the North East club would want McCarthy and around £15m.

If he wants to go, bye bye James..
Thanks for the first season, not so much for the garbage performances in the two following seasons.

If Joyce says he wants to go then he wants to go. I've got no idea how serious his injury is, it really could put off teams.

All his agents work this trying to scare the club into playing him,his agent did the same to get a new contract by putting bits in the press about Spurs.

He can go for all I care but honesty think he knows the clubs going forward and wants the club to publicly say he's not for sale.

Still rate him. Reckon he can still make a great holding midfield player. Is definitely not a box to box player. Doesn't have the passing ability . Great engine. Good tackler. Let him pass it 5 yards to someone who can do something with the ball. Barry is decent but doesn't have legs or pace for teams who hit us on the break.

If he stays, sound. If not, then sound.

I like Jimmy Mac and don't agree with the hate against him. If he goes it's genuinely because he wants to play, and we'll get a good fee for him.
