James McCarthy

These two I'd ship out as they're just good Championship players who are sponging a wage off us. Jury's out on Besic although he could be the new Gibson with his injury luck.
I like Besic, just have the feeling we are never going to see much off him and by the time he is match fit we will have other players in the the current manager has brought in, hope I am wrong as I like his attitude.

I'm just being honest and consistent, I criticised Barmby for leaving us after we rejuvenated his career so I'll not be a hypocrite and I'll stick with calling him Judas McCarthy.

I'm not Scottish, I'm actually more Irish than McCarthy and have an Irish parent. I have a Spanish grandparent, I'm not Spanish but according to FIFA I could have played for Spain. It's wrong.

He stabbed the country of his birth and his parents in the back. Like Barmby did to us.

It's wrong? Grow up and leave the patriotic country of your birth nonsense in the past

It's a can of worms once you get into it though. If McCarthy didn't choose to play for Ireland because of his own perceived sense of patriotism, then did he do it to gain international profile and boost future wage demands? Quite cynical if so. Not bothered meself like.

I don't understand why the fans have suddenly turned on him over the last year, his first 2 years fans loved him, he was the engine in the team doing what Gueye is doing now.

Very simple answer, Quinty.

The traditional scapegoats have gone,

Ossie....McGeady....Hibbo.....Timmy.

Someone needs to fill the void and Jimmy Mac was promoted to scapegoat in chief.

His supporting cast is Ross Barkley and Funes Mori.

And Gerald Deulefou is also climbing the scapegoat rankings.

Boys in dis hood be needin' someone to be bitchin 'bout :pint2:

Nope he never
RoI showed him commitment and had belief in him, Scotland never did until it was to late

In my eyes his country of birth let him down

The same applies to Ashley Williams.

Wales showed him commitment and had belief in him, England never did. His country of birth, England, didn't want him so he chose Wales through his maternal grandfather.

McCarthy has become one of the new scapegoats. We miss his energy and bite in the middle of the park.

Nationalism is a bit silly.

Nobody is in any control over where they are born. I dont see anything wrong with choosing what nationality you are.

Nationalism is a mechanism for elites to distract the bewildered herd from realising they are being stitched up good and proper... What part of the planet you happen to crawl out of a vagina in is meaningless.... Besides who knows how McCarthy was raised, what level of sectarian idiocy he may have been subjected to, or perhaps his grandfather who requested he play for 'the oul sod' regaled young Jim with with tales of the Tuatha de Danann, the children of Lir and Fionn Mac Cumhaill...

Don't disagree at all with what your saying but football supporters deriding nationalism is slightly amusing. After all why pick one team, one set of colours to follow, why not just follow football and support everyone? Perhaps it is the choosing of our 'enemy' that defines us more than our friends . Or maybe we are instinctively tribal anyway. You can choose to be in music tribes, political tribes, sports tribes or mosaic of all to define yourself. It appears to be a human need. I'm pure Everton Scouse by the way,all others are my sworn foes.

Nah that doesnt make sense at all. You pick your football team (even though all the marketing stuff says you dont..) you dont pick your nation.

Clearly many people do chose which nation they give their allegience to in many fields of activity including sports, the arts, politics etc

Good player.
Would like to see him, Gueye and Barry against City.

Think we'll definitely see a return to 3-5-2 against City.

All being fit...

Stek

Jags Williams Funes

Coleman Gueye Barry Baines
Barkley

Bolasie Rom

But, if Barkley's poor form continues, think we could definitely see McCarthy come back in. My only worry would be how ready he would be to take on City's midfield given his lack of game time.
