McCarthy is more or less physically fit, but not match fit, this was the case with Coleman as well last month.not to sound like Jerry seinfeld but what is the deal with Mccarthy and occasionally Gibson being incapacitated for extensive long stretches of time to only become miraculously fit for international duty for the player to eventually being ruled out of contention after they return. Smells sketchy like a con and possibly booze but that's probably just cause Gibson's involved
McCarthy isn't suddenly a bad player.
If Koeman can get the best from him he is one of the first names on the teamsheet. A centre mid pairing of him and Gana when Barry eventually leaves is potentially really good.
I hope he plays tonight

Ireland are that weak at the minute that they need to insist on calling up all their key players. McCarthy is a very very important player for his country and his desire to play along with Keane's demand for total commitment means that he was always going to be called up and will play.i was thinking about coleman too , does that occur with any other Everton player and their international squad? Maybe they're all intimidated by Roy Keane and don't want to get smashed in the face by that deranged rageaholic.

And for future reference, there is no shame in being intimidated by Mr Keane........
I'm going to tell him what you just said.Intimidated by Mr Keane?
He's a little fart mate who acts angry as some sort of trade mark
After those last two insipid performances? He'd walk in. And I'm sure Koeman wouldn't fail to have done so as a kick up the arse for those failing.I think James is great but I can't see a place for him in our first 11 at the moment.

Barry was hobbling about. McCarthy would have come in for him rather than Cleverley. To replace who? Gana? Barry? Would be a bit harsh to drop them after one below-par performance wouldn't it?
