We've missed McCarthy when Barry hasn't been playing or was injured like the last two games. Koeman himself said that Cleverley came on the other day and added energy to our midfield and for all the stick he gets, he very much did.

It's a can of worms once you get into it though. If McCarthy didn't choose to play for Ireland because of his own perceived sense of patriotism, then did he do it to gain international profile and boost future wage demands? Quite cynical if so. Not bothered meself like.

I don't agree with this, but I get the argument behind it, that international football shouldn't become the same as club. Moomin's comments were just backwards nationalism though

not to sound like Jerry seinfeld but what is the deal with Mccarthy and occasionally Gibson being incapacitated for extensive long stretches of time to only become miraculously fit for international duty for the player to eventually being ruled out of contention after they return.
