James McCarthy

....I thought McCarthy was fine in the role Martinez wanted, a defensive midfielder who rarely crosses the half-way line but I always wondered if he had more dimension to his game. He demonstrated it sometimes, the pass on the run with the outside of his foot to set up a Lukaku goal some seasons ago, but RK clearly wants players with a much wider contribution to take us to the next level.

I doubt McCarthy has that extra quality.

The very second he joined he had my full support. Then went on to earn a tiny bit of love. Then spend the next 2 years making us all look like dickheads.

But I wouldn't wish Newcastle on anyone.

Has he made you all look like dickheads, or have you guys not had the strength of will to stick by your man whilst he's faced adversity?

Seems to me that you and others who backed Jimmy Mac at first have surrendered your support rather meekly, whilst the people who never liked him because of the price tag have gorged themselves on any opportunity to stick the boot in, whilst some of you have said nothing and others have joined in the banquet

I can stick with adversity for a few games. Not 2 years mate.

I'm going to be violently sick.
A great first season and a half; injuries came thick and fast - form never recaptured.

That's all there is to see here. I dont get that some cant just grasp that and leave it. If he moves on I say good luck...and he's better off out of the way from a manager who hangs players out to dry in order to save his own (meagre) managerial reputation.

He gave us a better 18 months of effort than most Everton players in this present team.

He's not been playing games for two years though mate has he?

He's had injury problems and Martinez completely lost the plot towards the end of his reign when it came to tactics

There's been enough variables and events out of his control to avoid putting in the boots in my opinion

Now granted, if he gets fit again and then goes on to do fudge all even with a new manager at the club, that'd be different, but that really hasn't happened yet, so I'm not prepared to give him a kicking just yet. And I wasn't even in favour of signing him either, as I felt he was overpriced, but he went on to do very well for us until the injury issues and until Martinez hit the iceberg, so I'm just not ready to grab a torch and assist with setting the giant wicker man containing alight him just yet

In time, maybe, but I'm not ready to do that at the moment

I am.

I rate McCarthy - if he is unhappy and we can get £13m+ for him then let him go. Get Schnedierlein in for £20m and we have significantly improved. Get Cleverley out for £8-10m and keep McCarthy and get Schnedierlein and we are laughing!!!

Be honest though lads, do you really hate McCarthy that much or are you just getting stuck in because you all still, for some weird reason, hate Martinez and thus you want to go to war hardcore on one of his primary signings?

If you can honestly look in the mirror and say "no", then fair enough and more power to you, but it just seems unreasonable the level of hate that Jimmy Mac is getting in some quarters, especially when, as Dave succinctly pointed out, there was an 18 month period before the injuries where he was very good for us

Aye, I reckon it's residual hatred of Martinez, and Jimmy Mac's paying for it. As mentioned, had a great season and a half, racked up some injuries and is not quite the same. Played poorly in a poorly performing team. Lukaku, as ever, gets off the hook though

Depends who you speak to tbh

Never get why we as a fan base do this to players

Jimmy Mac at this point needs our SUPPORT because he's had a bad 18 months and still has a chance to turn this around

Who gives a flying fudge who signed him?!?!

If Koeman can get something out of him then it won't matter that he's a "Martinez Guy"

The clue is in the name, we're "supporters"

Sticking the boot into Jimmy Mac whilst he's still here helps no one

No difference to referencing a post from our forum - a fan, with an opinion who submitted it via the website rather than forum...

Interestingly though;

Many Evertonians thought that the club had paid over the odds for a midfielder from a relegated team and that Roberto Martinez had hurriedly wasted a large chunk of the Fellaini money on a player he was familiar with, as opposed to delving into the unknown or indeed finding a player who was proven at top-flight level.

It proved not the first time that Everton fans would be made to eat their words

As time as gone on, evidently - not the case.
