Those teams have always had ludicrous amounts of money to spend season after season for years now, with the new TV deal even mid-table prem clubs will be a more attractive proposition than some of europe's best for those talented money grabbing footballers. I think and hope it will make the league more of a contest. I don't agree with people's opinions that it means they will pull further apart ... especially not when you spend money like liverpool do.

I see what you mean, but I just find it hard to catch up to the spending of teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, the Mancs, etc. Even if you do one season, the big boys get threatened and throw obscene amounts of money at you to take your players. We saw this with Southampton, we've seen it with you guys and Stones, Lukaku, Coleman, etc. (teams bidding big to upset and tap up players), and I bet that if we do well this season, the so called big boys will come in with bids for Sakho, Cresswell, Kouyate, Lanzini, Payet, Reid etc. Those teams have more money than common sense, and are frightened when teams try to upset the apple cart.

I have always filed them two in the same folder as Darren Anderton(?) myself. FWIW, I still think Carroll, given a run, injury free, is a footballer.

Andy, when he is fully fit (2 games a year) is very difficult for teams to handle. As an impact sub for the last 20-30 minutes, I'm not sure there is anyone better in the league. His days as a starter in our team are fairly numbered, but if Sakho had been fit for the match against you, I do think big Andy would have wreaked havoc from the bench. I just wish he could stay fit! I do think Bilic has handled him much better than Allardyce did though.

Cheers mate, looking forward to it!

Didnt see a video of this tackle from last week just this pic ! so no idea how reckless it was ! maybe some watford fans werent happy ? thats why i seen it ? what was your thought on it mate ?

process

Ah West Ham a team that plays football the right way back in 1890 was it? The West Ham way don't they call it? Load of rubbish. Can't remember a single thing they've achieved in my life time or beyond. Just another lucky team who have inherited a new stadium funded by the tax payer. And just another team we will have to suffer going forward with their new sense of entitlement (like City).

To be perfectly honest mate, I don't recall this challenge at all. I would thought to have noticed something like this during game play. It could be that this challenge is made to look worse by the photo, or it could be that I just completely missed it, and that since no harm was done, it wasn't brought to my attention during the game. I remember Nobes getting stuck in a few times, but I don't think any players/fans complained, and I don't think there was an actual scissor motion involved, just that his legs were around the players leg. If there was a scissor motion, then I will agree it's a bad challenge, and I will admit the photo doesn't look great haha. I would have to re-watch this one.

The Collins challenge on the other hand, was a challenge made in anger/frustration, and a deserved red card. Wasn't a terrible challenge that was meant to cause injury, but it was meant to let the player know he was frustrated for sure.

well if you didnt see it, I dont suppose you can say much more ! :-) just made me laugh when i seen it and never heard much about it and looks very similar to mccarthys to which i hear he should be doing time for haha ! mccarthys looked worst in the replay but he went for the tackle after payet miscontrolled the ball and it went 4 yards away from him. if he's gone to purley hurt payet im should if would of been much worst ! payet's injury was unfortunate ! and that was the 1st game he was in my fantasy team now i gotta make a sub ! :-(

This comment I have to bite. (Ignore in advance if you don't like lengthy posts) The only people who mention the "West Ham Way" are Allardyce and the media, and some fans on social media. Allardyce coined the term to state that all West Ham fans were deluded and that he was the only person who was right and that he was God's gift to planet Earth, and the footballing Messiah. His friends in the media then jumped on the bandwagon, and therefore history was somehow changed to West Ham fans being deluded, and demanding expansive, free flowing football and winning every game.

Most West Ham fans know their place. We don't demand football to be played a certain way, and we certainly don't expect our team to finish in the top 4 every (or any) season. What we do expect is our team to mix it up a bit and give every match a go! Some of Allardyce's players even admitted that he targets certain games, and writes off games against the "better" teams. It's pragmatic and necessary at times, but as a fan, that's not what you want to hear. Could you imagine paying money to go to a match that your manager has written off as a loss? And I've seen some of your fans complain about the football served up under Moyes as boring, well that doesn't hold a torch to what we watched under Allardyce. I respect everything Allardyce did for us at the time, but we have some good players now, and a change was needed.

Now as far as the stadium goes: There was a fair bidding process, in which every team could have bid for. Our bid was deemed the best, therefore we got the stadium. It isn't our fault that the government built a stadium that was fit for an event that goes on only a few times a year. It isn't our fault that the government lacked the foresight to see the stadium would become a white elephant, and so they had to offer up the deal of the century to any interested parties to cover their respective rear ends. We bid, as well as other teams/entities, and we won. If Lionel Messi was available for 50k, you would be a fool not to bid for him, correct?

Our bid was the bid that was deemed best for the future of Athletics and football. Tottenham wanted to tear down the whole thing and build a new stadium, which they would have no doubt shunted most of the payment on the taxpayer, blaming the government for their stupidity in building the stadium. So not only would they have torn down something that was already funded by taxpayers, but they would have used taxpayer money to fund their new stadium as well. Do you really think Levy, man of the people that he is (note heavy sarcasm), would have funded the whole project and looked out for the best interest of the taxpayer? That was your next best option. So if you have any gripes/complaints, direct them at the government and the LLDC for creating the White Elephant stadium in the first place.

Rant over, apologies lads.

well if you didnt see it, I dont suppose you can say much more ! :) just made me laugh when i seen it and never heard much about it and looks very similar to mccarthys to which i hear he should be doing time for haha ! mccarthys looked worst in the replay but he went for the tackle after payet miscontrolled the ball and it went 4 yards away from him. if he's gone to purley hurt payet im should if would of been much worst ! payet's injury was unfortunate ! and that was the 1st game he was in my fantasy team now i gotta make a sub ! :-(

So you put him in your fantasy team and he gets injured...you're the one to blame!! I will have all West Ham fans direct their anger at you from this point forward! An inquiry has been sent in to the London and Merseyside Police as well. Be warned...

Definitely! Would have won the FA Cup, Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga this season if it weren't for that challenge. Those trophies would have looked great next to our World Cup trophy from '66 :p
All joking aside, it's a real shame for the lad as he's been tremendous so far this season.

I don't agree that is was a malicious challenge from McCarthy though, it was just the type of competitive ball winning challenge that he puts in. The injury to Payet was just bad luck imo.

West Ham fan here in actual peace (unlike the last one who sort of came on here and immediately attacked you),

My perspective of the tackle: In my opinion, the tackle was a red card offense. I know some will disagree, but that's just my opinion. I would have actually had no problem with the original tackle, due to the fact that he did get a bit of the ball before. No complaints from me there. It was the scissor motion after that, in my opinion, was born of frustration, and made it a poor challenge. I believe any tackle with a scissor motion should be retroactively banned, from this point forward. I've been on the end of one of these, and it isn't pretty. You won't hear any of this "thug" or "hitman" complaints about McCarthy, as it's just one of those things that happen in the game. Players make bad challenges all the time, and unfortunately players get injured.

I think the overreaction from some of our fans is ridiculous. Am I unhappy with our best player being out for 3 months? Hell yeah I am! The good news is we have strength in depth and I do believe we will recover from this. Lanzini will fill the void left by Payet, and we have players like Antonio, Moses, Song, Obiang, Zarate etc to fill the void left in our midfield. You guys are one of our rivals this season for the top 7-10 places in the league, and it'll be an interesting season for sure.

I think the reason a lot of our fans are upset is because we all like watching a player of Payet's ability. It also doesn't help that you guys are a bit of a bogey team and we always seem to play poorly against you lot and have injuries as well (not from bad challenges, just injuries in general. The Valencia injury was the result of an unfortunate landing from a perfectly fair challenge, for example).

Sorry for the lengthy post, good luck for the rest of the season (except I hope you finish below us, of course ;)).

Ah ffs.

A thoughtful, well written post explaining your point of view instead of jumping on the band wagon.

How am I meant to make fun of this?

Well in mate.
