So what is he?A few weeks ago: he is boss and what we have been missing all season.
Now: he's pretty crap really and offers little to the team.
Stop this nonsense immediately please.

So what is he?
He is never going to be a Frank Lampard type player bombing into the box and scoring vital goals, he is what he is and that is an effective stopper who does breaks up play and gives it to the people who can.
He will never play the Barry role as he isn't good enough in the ball. But we are a much better team with him in it.
A very good player that would get into the midfields of most sides in the league
Think it's more o just having someone with some energy in there next to Barry that makes the dufference, we look better with either McCarthy and especially besic.People don't seem to realise how effective he is until he's out of the side through injury.
Even when he's having an off day, he still does a job that no other player can do (though Besic has shown sides of being able to deputise for him)
The water carrier and so important to us.
Can't believe he is getting bashed like stones is.
The question i have is the fans that are bashing jimmy and stones what were they like when we had the likes of mitch ward and tony thomas and so on

Cleverly can't do it
his hard work is great but that should be the basic requirements of any central midfielder. if he wants to have a future in the starting 11 he needs to suddenly develop ability on the ball, especially at home. not going to happen.
useful squad player to have but if we want to kick on we need a player who works as hard and can hurt the opposition going forward too.
Most of the bashers probably haven't heard of either Mitch Ward or Tony Thomas, and probably weren't even born then!!
He does have ability on the ball. He's played some wonderful passes in and around the area this season, but it's really just not his game.
He's an absolute key player to us and so much more than a 'useful' squad player.
He'd get in every midfield in the league bar one or two sides, mate, I can almost gurantee that.
Yes there's areas that he can improve in, of course, but all in all he's vitally important.
I haven't heard of either of them either mate, and probably wasn't born then either, but I rate McCarthy as one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit! Vital player for us, and when he's on his game we're 10x the team.
There's the positional discipline as well.Yep. It's the energy but also the positional sense they need when playing alongside Barry.
McCarthy's positioning, in general, is great, and usually helps prevent those counter attacks that teams hit us with at home.
Besic's, understandably, isn't as good, but he has a bit more pace to make up for it and he's a better passer than McCarthy in terms of his range and ability to pick out an incisive pass out wide etc. (McCarthy's short passing is usually very good though).
Cleverley has the energy, but not the positioning and always looks to make the runs forward, which in turn negates the space for Barkley, so that's why the Clev is (for certain games) better out wide with a free role.
