Even as an Irish person I agree that the rules should be stricter.
As a nation we've benefitted greatly from those rules with the majority of our good players over the past twenty years being Brits. When you finally achieve any margin of success the wind is sort of taken out of your sails when you hear a foreign accents giving interview afterwards. I really hope you are being sarcastic. Sterling's situation is different. He qualifies due to being a British national having lived in the country most of his life and claiming British citizenship. I doubt he even has his Jamaican passport anymore.
Being born there is not the only way to become naturalized citizen of a country you know.
