2017/18 James McCarthy

I would not write off McCarthy just yet.
When fit , his aggressive style in our midfield offers something that the others do not.

It may be that he is for sale, or it may be the manager is being cautious and slowly bringing him up to full fitness rather than throwing him in too early.

I think he may well play a big part under RK. I think the manager likes him as a player.
I think McCarthy has not helped himself by turning up for international games only half fit , but at least he seems to have learned that lesson.
Besic however I think may be sold or possibly loaned.
It would not surprise me totally if Barry also leaves before the end of the window.

As with most managers at most clubs there are probably a couple of players whose future are not fully decided one way or the other when players come back for pre season.
Er gana says hello.

McCarthy gets nowhere near the squad let alone the first team, easily fifth or sixth choice by now. If there's a few teams interested get him gone and take the cash

..it's the hamstrings that concern me more. I have my doubts that he'll ever offer value for money if he either plays within himself to protect them, or plays flat out and they pop. I'd be inclined to take the money for that reason alone.

Putting his country and his own personal safety, before Everton last season, when it was plainly obvious to everyone that he wasn't fit, won't have done him any favours with the hierarchy at the club either.

....absolutely. I do think, though, that RK liked what he saw against Arsenal and one half against the Reds last season. It was those games I felt McCarthy let the hand brake off but the muscle popped in the Derby. In the months previous to that I reckon he was protecting the injury, perhaps subconsciously but he wasn't playing full on.

There is no doubt a fully fit James McCarthy like you alluded to against Arsenal and the RS is an asset to the team, any team in fact. But can he ever attain those fitness levels again is the question?

I think he's definitely good enough for the starting XI when fit, but then he's never fit so the point is moo

Loved it when he munched someone in that derby after the ref had already blown.
