If you can't pass forward you won't make it to the top, simple as that sadly. A midfielder that can't pass forward, hardly ever scores and is always injured yet people kept up the illusion he was a class player. Bog standard at best. Had a few decent games where he ran around a lot which is basically half the game of what top midfielders do.

One of the more unfairly treated players by the fan base IMO

Gets a lot of the Anti-Martinez backwash, due to him being a Bobby signing (One of his better ones in fact)

When he's been fit, he's been a good player for us, and at times he's been excellent

Pound for pound he was probably our best player in that 13/14 Season

Injuries have written off the past couple of seasons for him, but if he can stay fit and get back to that 13/14 form, he'll be a very valuable player for whichever team has him
I don't agree with that. I thought he was a poor signing when Martinez brought him in, but as you rightly say in that first season he made me and many like me, eat our words.

But from the opening game against Watford in 2015 - which was straight after he'd signed his new deal, he's never looked the same player to me. Failed to track runners, made less effort to cover the fullbacks etc etc he just seemed to lose his focus and desire for me. A move away now is the best thing for the club and the player.

In fairness, even though I was delighted with the signing and his first season, I think he was absolutely atrocious for most of Bobbys last two seasons....when not injured. However the whole club seemed to be a mess so there is context for it.

When he has played under RK he has done pretty well. Injury free he would be back up again as one of the better Prem league mids, way above the dross he is being compared to in some comments here.

Wouldn't be too fussed if we sold him though, as even if you like a player, there is only so long you can allow a player to overcome being a regular on the injury list.

Honestly never rated the lad, even his first season.

Got to say though, I thought he had a few games last year where he hinted at being better than I'd given him credit for, Maybe Koeman knew how to get more out of him or maybe it was just coincidence. Either way, his 'injury' record is appalling and we'll hardly notice if he moves on.

Sooner the better, and he can follow his passion playing for Ireland, somewhere else.
