it's too bad. he was better than I thought he'd be, in year one.

i suspect it's the psychological impact of all the injuries, as much as anything, especially when you're meant to be a snarling midfield attack dog, breaking up play all over the pitch. just the slightest doubt in the back of your mind going in for a challenge, and you lose your edge.

Gana is so, so much better though - he does everything McCarthy once did, and with so much more skill, and class. and even Barry is still wiser and more composed on the ball.

maybe one of the promoted sides will be torn apart in the opening weeks, and we can sell at a premium after they panic.

If he stays he will be a player used in certain situations, like against Liverpool last year when he was excellent. I could see him being used in Europe.

Can't see us getting big money for him given his time on the treatment table over the past while. His value must be declining.
Can only see him playing in some Europa Cup games and maybe early rounds of the domestic cups, won't help his international standing but it looks like O Neil and Keane will pick him no matter what.
