i suspect it's the psychological impact of all the injuries, as much as anything, especially when you're meant to be a snarling midfield attack dog, breaking up play all over the pitch. just the slightest doubt in the back of your mind going in for a challenge, and you lose your edge.
Gana is so, so much better though - he does everything McCarthy once did, and with so much more skill, and class. and even Barry is still wiser and more composed on the ball.
