2017/18 James McCarthy

I think your wrong mate, he’s a well rounded box to box midfeilder, he has the best engine in the squad and bring energy, penetration and a higher tempo.

Class little player is James, I think we will see the best of him now, it’s pretty clear and a Koeman never got on.
He'll last two more games, go out on international duty and then his body will break down again. He's shot.

He’s just turned 27 mate, he’s coming into his prime years. His injury problems are of Everton making. He also hasn’t had a consistent coach since he has been here that hasn’t helped him.

I think we will see him progress under Allerdyce.

He is a quality player, every single manager has started him when fit.

Speculation.

I would like to see him replace Schneiderlen for a few games and see how he does, he is the kind of player allardyce likes, so a bit of respect from your manager will prob majorly cut down his injury problems as a lot of that is prob physcolological, that's why when Ireland come calling he jumping to get on that plane. Koeman showed the lad no respect as a player + his way around that was permanently injured, no difference then Barkley except his way to combat it was to want out his boyhood club. A bit of respect from your manager goes a long way in someone's attitude/confidence! Now not trying to big the lad up cos we certainly need to improve, but that 20mins or so he played today showed more spirit then seen most this season!

Do you get points for tackles or does the game still work by scoring more goals than the opposition?

The lad is a perennial sick note and some of you are remembering the player from Martinez' first year rather than who we've seen since. Thirty minutes of headless chicken running and a few tackles isn't going to make up for being crap and unavailable for 3 years.

Sell.

You can only score when you have the ball, so you either wait for the opposition to balls things up ( which is a decent enough plan against ordinary teams ), or you actively do something to get the ball off them. One of those things is called a tackle, something McCarthy is actually quite good at. He's not the best once he's won the ball, but if someone else in midfield can do the fancy stuff, then you start to have a balanced midfield.

His lack of fitness is a good reason to sell him, but, if he was fit for 80% of our games, he'd be really useful to have around. As he's not likely to be fit, the chances of someone giving us any meaningful amount of cash for him are pretty low.

Not particularly aimed at you, but the whole "Sell" thing at the end of a post for any player someone doesn't like, shows a lack of maturity, and it's disappointing to see that @ToffeeTim's catchphrase is being taken up by other members of his generation.
