Considering the competition he has for that title it doesn’t say a lot
If you mean CM than maybe he is , although I’d say Hendrick and Hoolahan are better
If you midfield in general than Brady and McClean are better

McCarthy is a clogger !!
Fitness is the issue. If he can stay fit then he becomes a very important player for us.
A strong competitive ball winning central midfielder is what McCarthy is at his best. Hopefully, he can now go for an extended injury free run.
