Still doesn't make the comment any better.

Like i said it the lad was distraught at what had happened, of course the media are going to pick up on it, a footballer showing compassion for a fellow pro, you don't get that very often.
The media was the target and I make no apology for having a go at their maudlin attempt to make Rondon's anguish the story here. Its just soap opera for them. Bollocks to them. My concern is solely for McCarthy.

In today's market, £13m is small fry, especially considering the money we have spent on some players over the past twelve months. Give it a rest, now is not the time to debate James' market value.

£13m in 2013 was not small fry in 2018. Of course wish him a speedy recovery.

Coverage of ground is his attraction for managers. I dont think they're asking him to fly into challenges. He has to learn to stay on his feet and just shepherd players away from danger areas. If there's a 50-50 then stay on your feet and be ready to avoid contact.

I feel so sorry for him, but he if he takes stock and reconfigures his game plan he can come back and play for another 4/5 seasons.

In other words , you want him to turn into Schniederlin? Don't tackle and let people run past you at every opportunity?

If he had of done that today we would have gone 2-0 down.

Pick his tackles more intelligently. Didn't Peter Reid change his game plan similarly when he injured his knee?

I feel for him too, though I think it's the other part of the game he could work on - he seems to me to be one of those footballers who lacks confidence and has a bit of a nosebleed when he gets to a certain point high up the pitch when attacking. Hopefully with some time out he can recover some composure on the ball and make something positive of a truly awful situation.

Had he not gone into this tackle, Rondon was in on goal. He had to do it.

And it came from Schneiderlin - who should have been turfed off at half-time - giving the ball away under pressure, from all people, Barry.

Watch the replay it started from a misplaced pass from McCarthy in our own half. He tried hard to makeup his mistake by making the tackle. Unluckily their striker caught him.

Not necessarily. Better anticipation gets you near enough to stay on your feet and get closer to the player to avoid them getting shots off.

This is in no way a criticism of McCarthy who I have praised since his arrival. He has the heart of a lion and that's been abused at times by forcing him back before he's ready. But for his own sake I;d rather he adapted his game.

I agree, he should be more rounded - and that's partly the fault of coaches.

Agree.

He has played long enough with our defence to anticipate that one of them will cock up sooner or later. Probably explains why he plays so deep to start with.

Get well soon James.
