English players are notoriously overvalued in the transfer market. Ok there may be some examples of exceptions to the norm in this but as a general view I wouldnt say I have seen many English players value for money unless you buy them at a young age.

In terms of James I think it would be a good signing, if nothing else his experience may bring the right type of mindset to the club and give the perception that Everton are serious.

James is a very good player on his day, again I just think that the risk averse amongst us (of which there have been many in this thread) would pass on this one and look for far better value elsewhere.

In 2020 £40m wouldn’t buy you Watford, Crystal Palace’s, Aston Villa’s, best players. The fee isn’t huge for players these days.
