Transfer Rumour James Rodriguez

But you said yesterday we were going to ignore FFP!
I'm fine with not paying attention to it I really am.

City have violated it for a solid 10 years and only just got caught. I'm really not sure why anyone would give a toss at this point. Just buy who you want. But that doesn't mean you should throw money down the drain.

Wait we are going to spend 15m and not even guarantee more than one year?

We definitely don't have the money for that...

I think a package of wages+ fee approaching 15 could be realistic over a 2 year period. It depends how far Ancelotti feels he could get the best from Bale.

I don’t see the sense in going after James for the following reasons

1. We should be (and supposedly are) targeting younger hungry players who aren’t on inflated salaries
2. He doesn’t seem to fit into our formation. He’s not a dynamic wide player, and not a strong box to box midfielder, which we are crying out for (see the Chelsea game).
3. Similar to 2, in Ancelotti’s system he is most likely to replace Gomes. We have far greater need in other positions.

To me he has all the hallmarks of being an expensive but disappointing vanity project.

I'm talking James.

I genuinely don't want Bale for any price. I think he's checked out and coming here isn't going to recheck him in.

Other way round for me.

Bale has been and is a world class footballer. It's gone stale for him at Real Madrid but only cos of Zidane. The pr against him has been outrageous. He's decided he wants to fight for his place at Real and that's his choice.

James has flatter to decieve ever since the 2014 World Cup. Real have looked to offload him about three times, when they have the clubs he's joined on loan have done the same.

Ancelotti got the best out of Bale when they won the 2014 Champions league.

For me it would be Bale a million times over.

I think this is something we are going to have to be much more flexible with in the future anyway

On the basis of your argument we should sign any one a hundred world class players he has managed , you got it right in the second sentence ,second and third words .

Regarding 2 - Ancelotti has said many times now he uses 4-4-2 because the players we have now fit that formation best. If we change the players at his disposal, he might change the system.
Shouldn't be looking at talented players who may be available and disregarding them because they don't fit a formation. Ancelotti even said in his book that was something he learned at Milan or somewhere.

He’s not a centre midfielder, number 10 maybe. Imo he could comfortably play wide right, he averages better than a goal every 3 games at Madrid & Bayern.

And you can’t just target all young players, that basically becomes a gamble and a never ending project.

Unfortunately we aren’t able to attract the best
Players at the perfect age. 23/26. Or the world class youngsters.
So it’s trying to get the best 19/20 year olds we can, or pay for players like James or Allan.

Most of the middle age range players we have bought are either not good enough.
And this is only my opinion. Iwobi, Bernard, Keane. Or they still have question marks against them IE, Gomes, Mina, Pickford even digne hasn’t had a great 2nd season. And gbamin is still unknown.

That isn't true at all. James has been at least as good and injuries have held him back. Bale has had injury issues as well but his level when he is playing has dropped off.

Anyone who thinks James hasn't been world class post 2014 hasn't been watching really.

If James could adapt then in the same side with a CM / CB / RB added he and Bale would cause any team problems.

Its a misconception that Bayern didnt want to sign James, they did! He asked them not to take the option.

Im the main person on the forum to advocate youth but if the possibility is there without breaking the salary structure by much then i think we would be fools not to sign both on 3 year deals.

With Bale we may also be able to get him on a season long loan and he may want to prove in England he has still got the magic and plays for a last big contract somewhere.

Ideally we need both for 1 season which allows us to sign u23s in key positions and quality u21s then make the decision on both next summer.

James only has 1 year left but so did barry andnwe negotiated a payment after his contract expired.
