Confirmed Signing James Rodriguez

The Koeman era is the perfect example of why sensible spending is needed.
At that time we spent too much money and signed far too many players. When the players came back to pre season the manager didn't know what to do with them all or how to integrate into him team.
Players just fell away or got squeezed out.
The DoF model is designed so that there is a long term recruitment strategy regardless of manager. To be fair to Brands he has reduced the average age of the squad but getting rid of the deadwood has proved next to impossible.

However, this team is in need of an urgent bit of surgery and I guess you don’t appoint Carlo Ancelotti without giving him some degree of control over who comes in.

We had one of the youngest playing squads last season. The defence and attack are particularly young. Don’t mind an experienced midfield tying them together, we’ve looked clueless in the middle

totally agree, as long as the experienced guys do come in, deliver off the bat and have enough pace and legs to keep it up... if they fail we are saddled again with no midfield and no way to recoup and begin the next tranche of trying to loan out underperformers..

saying that i am very happy with Allan and James and ok with Doucoure (I don’t consider 27 old btw).. it more a divergence from strategy..

read London's latest article On TW to articulate exactly what I’m trying to say.. just way better

We've got the players with their whole career ahead of them playing for us now. Holgate, Richarlison, DCL, Branthwaite, Gordon, Kean etc. We need top quality to help them progress. I think signing quality experience is exactly what we need right now. Hopefully (if we sign him) James Rodriguez can stay fit and help them get to that next level.

I agree. Sometimes you just need a player with that extra bit of quality to inspire the younger heads in the team...and the next generation coming through.

I think the idea is that players known to the manager (Allan, James) and a player who knows the league (Doucourè) will have more capacity to hit the ground running. Honestly those 3 and a RB and I’ll be happy. Still think we need a RW desperately too but surely we can take advantage of loans for those if the money is spent. Ideally a flurry of outgoings as well
I’ll give that article a read ;)

The amount of ‘crab’ shouts at this lad when things aren’t going our way lol

It’s been said, but imo I don’t think we should be paying anything over £20m for anyone over the age of 25 at this point.
