I always have to caution my optimist, as I'm in general quite an optimist (which is dangerous for an Evertonian!) and I keep comparing it to Rooney. Some key difference to me are though, that he has not played as many games recently so has "less miles on the clock" and has probabaly gone a bit less "life and death" than Rooney did in quite a few of them Wayne was later into his career. He's also a coiple of years younger that helps. You'd also say, he has a manager who was desperate to sign him and knows him well. I always got the sense with Rooney it was a bit of an afterthought for Koeman.

For players like Gordon he will be a brilliant role model.

I think we may move back towards a 4-3-3 type formation and get him in the middle with options all around him.

interesting comparison to Rooney, both are incredibly gifted footballers with supreme confidence in their ability and have no fear of the game. Fascinating to see if Rodriguez has the same driving desire on a football pitch as Rooney, I doubt he has but both can certainly transform a game in an instant.

Must be brilliant for them to be around a player like this. They must be buzzing.

How can you not get better when surrounded by a genuine quality footballer.

I love how even I’m creaming at him lobbing the keeper on his line, could you imagine the fume if somebody actually did that to us in a match. Honestly I think there would be a Jihadi-esq video online by the Monday with blues stood over the keeper on his knees shouting at the camera as they land the coup de grâce

I think with Rooney he's just one of those lads were fate conspired against him to ever really achieve much at Everton. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Had he been 10 years older, he's an integral part of the Royle Fa Cup success. 20 years older he players for the 85 team and wins the lot. 10 years younger we can probably hold onto him for a lot longer and he comes into a good team. Just not meant to be.

He comes back in the summer of chaos, with a manager who's lost and a is gone within a couple of months and it's a real struggle of a season. New direction the next summer and he's the ovcious and easy scapegoat.

As for James, I think for a lot of the younger players, it will be quite an inspiration toplay with him.
