Just gets better and better and better.

@ForeverBlue92 , @The Esk and zzzzzzz

Maybe I've misread, but seen a few bits on twitter about the great man saying James hasn't embraced Everton in the way Begovic and his wife has (which, if it's just going off Instagram accounts) isn't really true.

If I trusted the manager and people in charge of recruitment to get us players in who would make losing someone with James' quality alright, then it'd be different.

But I don't. Because they've shown no evidence they have any idea.

Hasn't embraced Everton??

We have just appointed a Kopite ffs.

Honestly we're the most infuriating and baffling fanbase on the planet.

I hope you mean because what we should be doing is just celebrating and enjoying the fact we have James, probably one of the top 5 most popular players around currently, and social media is the measure for that. I think he's 4th after Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar on insta. (Forget quality and his achievements for now, it's a big deal that he's here)

That doesn't mean we should be happy that the club are panicking and looking to cash in on a player who is, genuinely, in a different stratosphere to 90% of our squad.

Believe me if we invest in a good replacement you'll forget all about the fella and his cheese string calf.

Some fans may like a player taking his team mates, fanbase and club for mugs but I dont.

It's because certain sections (mainly on social media, not here) are still adamant in trying to justify everything this leadership does.

I'll argue with certain things where I see logic (each of the signings so far, for example, bar maybe Townsend) and that Coleman one-year extension.

But in other aspects, we're clearly a massive mess. We're three years into a DoF's tenure and we're in a worst financial position than when he started, we don't know if he gets a say in things and the management process from CA leaving to RB being appointed was not exactly an example of any joined-up thinking.

I've been someone who has always tried to give the benefit of the doubt. But I see this James situation as this: the player, rightly or wrongly, won't be arsed. He'd happily go but he'd happily stay, he's a professional and by all accounts a well-liked member of the squad.

The club, and by b virtue Benitez, will be seeing his potential departure as an opportunity to make a quick buck. While there is logic in that, to me it just shows what a mess we're in, because we have genuine tosh, complete and utter tosh, which offer much less than James, who as we know, can probably manage 30 games a season tops, on similar wages. Yet they will still be here.

People point to teams like Leicester, but while they sold good players, they always had a squad in place to keep succeeding.

We really, really, really don't. And I cannot see how any fan can justify James Rodriguez being shown the door when our attacking midfield options consist of Alex Iwobi (bought for £28 effing million) and a player who we don't know whether they'll even be playing again.

But this is the thing, we only need to replace James if we let him go.

We currently need a RB, and a winger. Third is a CM.

You let James go, he doesn't pay for all three, and you then need a replacement for him on top, because our other attacking mid might not ever play for us again.

The fact that the club is in such a bad position financially is why this is infurating.

James directly (and this is just basic high-level stuff without going deeper into stats) contributed to 15 goals last season.

So you need to replace those goals. Or you keep him, be smart and have our DoF do the bloody job he was brought in to do and find us players that don't cost the world, but offer us different options?

We sell James it basically gets us 2 players in most likely - so a replacement (who would be hopefully more reliable/less injury prone) and box off the RB situation that has been a noose around our necks for years.

At that point any late departures can help get in that RW.

You know yourself mate James in Benitez's system will hardly be a benefit and we need pace and power desperately.

Forget the name and the talent look rationally at the situation and obviously the first time he's tired and Benitez doesn't indulge him like Carlo they'll be talk of dressing room unrest etc.

Its a sideshow we simply can do withoit this season.

I think you're overestimating how much money we have mate.

We have nowt, nada, to spend.

Clearing £120k and getting a £10m fee isn't gonna change that. That gets us in one player.

We get rid of James, we still need to sell another big asset, as well as the other tosh.

So why not try clear that other tosh first, ey?

If Benitez can't fit James into his system then we shouldn't have hired Benitez.

We're not talking about him walking into a Madrid team with star names left right and centre.

His other attacking mid options are Iwobi, a bloke who is suspended from the club and Andre Gomes, who has forgotten how to pass a ball forward.

But even if it is a sideshow - it is far less important than the other problems we've got. We can get rid of 1-2 more high earning players first, we can address the RB, second striker, and wide creative player problems first. and what is the problem with Benitez just answering the question or saying 'James is an important player in this team' - he can say it about other players too, to be fair to them as well. What is the harm in just addressing someone like James, just to give the squad some notion of stability and continuity. Then you can also mention young players, mention Pickford, other key players, i think everyone would understand that the players who play regularly for their country, who contribute the most to Everton are going to get called out in the press and media.

I tend to agree that
1) James is important, worth keeping, and worth getting the most out of him for one season. For that even he needs some love and care and acknowledgement.
2) Even if people want him out actively, or think he's not worth it, there are 4-5 players ahead of him in that queue, contributing far less.

I agree with this. James + Ancelotti, followed by Gray/Townsend + Benitez just demonstrates the lack of clear vision and direction in the squad, which a DOF is supposed to provide.

I'm always positive and try to be optimistic, but 4 years in a row of totally different ideas, managers and squads makes me wonder why we're not getting rid of the rubbish first.
