It's amazing to me that die hard Evertonians look at this club and think, ya the right thing here is to boot out the only player we have who can play a ball forward while simultaneously coming to the defense of a kopite manager. You reap what you sew and all that, I just don't think people realise how bad this season could potentially be. The kopite could easily relegate us and some will still argue, he's not to blame. He's a kopite so he is always to blame, it's easy enough to remember

I’m genuinely interested. Can anyone come up with a scenario where a player jumped on a jet during a match of consequence and took off so he could prepare for an international match? Specifically one where he didn’t have to miss the club match but just chose to?

Then bonus points for a scenario where the fans begged for him back and insisted he was committed to the club.
He's the most unlikely martyr ever....but the people who want to undermine this manager are that desperate he's being made into one.

It's utterly pathetic.

The feller is an utter wastrel who took the piss at the end of last season and is using the discord between some fans and club / manager to wangle a move.

When players were proper players, jetting off for international matches..

It was wrong to do what he did, but Ancelotti allowed if and so did the club
As I said, they do everything wrong

he also went to see his daughter who he hadn’t seen in a year, given he wasn’t fit and wouldn’t have been able to travel to the Etihad as he wasn’t part of the squad, then what would have been the point?

I don’t think it was right but it’s hardly a reason to think we should get rid of our only creative player because we’ve brought in Townsend

Couldn’t play? Debatable (He thought he could for Colombia) but ok

chose to support his teammates as they fought for Europe? Nah, jumped on his pj and told all the Colombians he was coming home for them.

definitely committed to efc now though
He thought he could for Colombia 10 days after that photo was taken, yes. He wasn’t fit for the city game and that’s on him and the club too

he spent a week with his daughter who he hadn’t seen in a year in a pandemic too. But it doesn’t matter cos he gets paid a lot

we deserve what we get, years of crap, and I fear a stark reality check is on the way.

Just clocked why this seemed familiar though. This is basically the same as when Silva came in and got rid of Rooney.

Fan favourite for some, luxury player not worth his wage for others, new manager comes in wants to put his own stamp in so gets rid of him despite being one of the few of only a handful of better performing players from the previous year but manager replaces him with a player he likes from a previous club.

Only difference is Silva brought in Richarlison as his new talisman, Benitez brought Townsend……
And the club show little class in doing it either

you don’t punt James Rodriguez when you’re other attacking midfield option is Alex Iwobi

there is no way, in the vastness of space and time, that that should happen

Couldn’t sleep like but

I get why the end of last season annoyed people. It annoyed me. But he’s a fantastic player and there should be room in the squad for him over any of the other attackers other than Rich and Dom.

the reasoning of ‘well get rid of him and we can get players in’ shouldn’t wash - it excuses the club and the Dof, the board, the recruitment in general. James being here is not the reason we didn’t buy a right-back 3 years ago when we needed one.

If we had better options in place, and I trusted the people in charge to get ones in, then it wouldn’t be an issue.

but by reliable accounts we want to spend £30m on McNeil (and that’s what Burnley will want), who has never played in the role that is seemingly free for him in the team.

and if any other side replaced James Rodriguez with Andros Townsend and Dwight McNeil, we wouldn’t be all going we should replicate them

In November James played Uruguay in Colombia. He didn’t bother to see his daughter then? What a family man skipping the City match to see her.

Christ on a bike is this still rumbling on?

I'm not anti-James or fully onboard the Benitez train. However, the undeniable truth is the buck stops with the manager at seasons end. Therefore if the manager believes we're better off with players that work hard for the team as opoosed to swanning around to inject moments of genuine quality for half the games a season, it's his call.

What I will say is James (almost) daily twitch mutterings are getting tiresome. If it was any other player (apart from Rich, Godfrey, maybe DCL) this place would have the pitchforks out.

Real Madrid gave him away for nothing, just to get the wage of the book. I suspect we'll end up doing exactly the same.

As it's becoming increasingly clear the manager doesn't fancy him (not a surprise at all) the sooner the James Circus packs up and leaves town the better.

We've wanted a dedicated team for years so it's not fair to then ridicule Benitez for supposedly not accepting the same that Carlo did re James.

If it was Carlo getting rid of him I think the response would be different.
Exactly, a common theme for years is moaning about players not being committed on the pitch. The current manager appears to have recognised that and sees no place for our most talented player. (that last part is undeniable)

The anger is definitely multiplied because it's Benitez that is shoving him towards the door. If it was Ancelotti (who served up Multiple ganes in which Allardyce would have out entertained him) it would be "Ahhhh, shame it didn't work out. In Carlo we trust."

We'll finish higher up the league this season than last.

We won't lose 9 times at home.

At the end of every game we'll probably be able to say "They all worked hard." (Something people have been crying about for years)

So the question is, has he decided not to play on Saturday, or has Benitez decided he won’t play? I guess either way, he doesn’t play.

FALSE. The beef with Colombia was that James wouldn't be fit for their first qualifier , two weeks after the finale, but wanted to try and make their second match and the Copa (almost a month later), and they told him no. He was hurt. It's not debatable.

Ancelloti told him he could go home. He did.
Ancelotti, told us he wanted to be here for the new stadium. He flew away too.
