First half yesterday Brighton pressed really high and aggressively at times, James took one pass stuck to the sideline in the right back position facing his own goal, surrounded by cloggers, i’ll have to watch again but the way he looked after the football on a pass he possibly shouldn’t have received was incredible and off we went flying through the press, only a handful of players in the league can do things like that

I watched the game on an American stream. Don't know who the British co commentator was but after James first goal he said "you can question his work rate and his ability but you can't question his technique".Wtf?

It was Matthew Upson and he was horrid beyond that moment but what made that one of the dumber I've ever seen is that on that move James won the ball back AND scored the goal. How can you work harder?

Richard Keys has already backtracked on his early call about James Rodriguez at Everton

In a post to his blog, Richard Keys was quick to dismiss James Rodriguez at Everton but he has had a spectacular change of mind.

On September 10, Keys wrote on his blog: “Everton? Anything other than a top-half finish would be a total failure. Having appointed Ancelotti they had to back him, but I’m not convinced by James Rodriguez.


“If he was top drawer he wouldn’t be signing for Everton, whoever was in charge. I wouldn’t fancy him at Stoke on a wet Tuesday evening in November, but he’ll look great when the Toffees are 2-up at home.

He added: “For Everton to make an impact, he’s GOT to dominate games. If I was Ancelotti I’d be going after Troy Deeney. That’s what Everton need – Reid and Gray again. Deeney would be fantastic around the club. Like Jagielka, he’s a ‘proper’ bloke.”

That's pretty much it. To Cromagnon Man, like Richard Keys, James Rodriguez is the personification of a a pretty boy Carlos Kickaball: goes missing when the real men are needed for the real tests, as if an inclement midweek night at Stoke City or even in English football are the highest callings of the game.

If James looked like Paul Scholes (and no offence to Scholes, who was a wonderful player), he'd be deified by the likes of Keys. But James represents a threat to Cromagnon Man's masculinity. So he rails against the vision and beauty of the talent instead of letting go of his internal prejudices and submitting himself to the penetrative thrust of inevitable tribute.

A real man like Troy Deeney would love James's penetrative balls.
