Not sure it's been said. But it's looking unlikely that he'll be back and ready in time for the Derby I heard mentioned somewhere... Really??

All unfounded rumors. Colombia vs Chile game will be over at 330 am on Wednesday. He will travel to Liverpool that Wednesday and have Thurday and Friday to recover. It's not the optimal scenario but it's getting overblown a bit.

Typically the body recovers from jet lag at a rate of 1/2 time zones per day. Columbia is 6 hours behind us so it should take about 3-5 days for him to recover. My guess is he’s going to feel it a bit still by the time the derby comes around. He’s probably used to it by now after the time he’s spent in Europe

Saying that it’s not that far behind that he couldn’t slip into his usual routine when he returns which will massively help his recovery

No more than any other South Americans who do it all the time in the PL.
Can't see an issue to be honest.

I'm more worried he may pick up covid whilst over there.
Think it's silly by FIFA having players travelling the world under the current circumstances.
It is silly, but honestly to have the World Cup in 2022 qualifiers have to start being played. What is dumb is the friendlies that are still going ahead.

There should be no international football getting played at all. Countries are not making any money from them bar TV revenue, which isn't like it is for the leagues.

If they simply scrapped these daft international breaks we could have squeezed the domestic season by 3 weeks, and those internationals could be played at the end of the season.

It's daft even having CL/EL in all honesty.

They really don't
What is the solution then? CONMEBOL is currently finishing qualifying in March 2022. I know the World Cup is in the winter so they could do some in Summer 2022, but logistically that makes holding a World Cup tough for anyone trying to travel. I guess you could do it, but I see why they're trying not to.

I see why they're trying to too but it's all money driven (like that daft WC in the first place).

The last thing players should be doing right now is flying halfway around the globe and especially for meaningless friendlies, as you say.

Maybe have a one-off tournament in March like they did for the CL, but for the internationals?

Pause the seasons if needs be for 2-3 weeks and get them all in, but then those games could have been played now rather than then so it would even itself out.

CONMEBOL could have and should have postponed games until the next year and just do away with the home and away league set up they have. Just have each team play each other once in a neutral site and that would cut the amount of matches from 18 to 9 per national team.

But like someone else said, this is all about money
