Thought he worked very hard tbf, not at his usual creative self but still played an inch perfect killer pass into sigurdson that should’ve been a goal and had the 4th most touches outve anyone on the pitch

It isn't about whether he works hard or not. I will make it clear here I absolutely adore Hamez, he is without doubt one of the most talented players I have ever seen pull on a blue shirt. His first touch, ability to find space and passing ability are second to none.

He doesn't fulfil his role though. If you are going to play a 4-3-3 then the wide players in the three have to be ultra disciplined. They have to play narrow, press the opposition when we don't have the ball and drag the opposition infield and allow our fullbacks to overlap.

Hamez doesn't do that he drifts infield and makes eye-catching passes but destroys our shape.

That nutmeg for siggy in the last minute was nawty as F.... no other player we have had in the prem era would have spotted that pass never mind have the balls to try it never mind the quality to actually execute it ... should have won the match right then but siggy [Poor language removed] was a Carbon copy of his last minute chance against Man U last year

Again, the biggest issue with him is we have no idea how to really fit him. He SHOULD be central as we wouldn't get pulled out of shape but he's mostly wide right.
He has been tried as a 10 though for Bayern and Madrid and it doesn't work. Hamez loves to start wide and cut in, it creates space because the full back cannot follow him in. When he plays as a ten he gets passed on between the centre backs and their DM.

Defensively the issue is when we turn the ball over, and he has moved inside we get outnumbered

Undoubted talent this lad but we are having to carry him & it's costing us...

We are not strong enough to afford this luxury, the plus does not outweigh the negative throughout the season as his lack of fitness is costing us & exposes a big weakness in our team, take that as well as the injury problems he will most definately accumulate then the negatives will be in abundance...

I know this will not be a popular opinion but I feel it has to be said...

I think you've got it round the wrong way. :D You're meant to keep all the good players and ship out the rest.

I think this is one January transfer window you do spend money, the league is very even this year, the top teams are overloaded with games. They'll drop points.

Only a quarter of the way through a long season.

just so you know mods... that “poor language removed “word was actually meant to say shot.. not the word it thinks I said... I and o are next to eachother on the keyboard so apologies got my fat fingers :)

He mostly played at RM/W at both Real and Bayern and was recognized as best midfielder in La Liga and Bundesliga his first season with each - and he was with Carlo for some of that time so it makes sense that Ancelloti believes it can work... And it certainly did to start the season here too.

I hope that with a solid run of games and not needing to travel back to Colombia till March he can find real sync with the team.

Probably the best creative play I've seen from an Everton player in decades.

There's no surprise he bags mega assists everywhere he goes. Just need the binheads in our side to finish them as they ain't going to get a better creative player around them
