Some great shouts on here about how we’d be better off without James in the team, doesn’t track back enough etc. etc. These lads would have hated watching the Golden Vision. When you have a player as good as the G.V. or James, you find a system to capitalize on their sublime gifts and minimise their shortcomings.

James for 25 or so games a season is enough to win us lots of points we wouldn’t have got, in those games when a flash of genius turns 1 point into 3

Ah come on Mate, we are both blues, For me it is not about weeks but games that is the important aspect. At no time have I made out he is a liability if you look at one of my posts I said there when he played he could turn a game. I stand by that, he really does need to be rested to stop these niggiles and come back fully, yes fully fit.

As I hope Digne and Allan will do.

PS never touch Baileys but Famous Grouse now that's another matter.

So lets leave it there, okay with you?
I'm not meaning to be disrespectful or calling you names, I'm just disagreeing with your take on the situation and trying to understand your side. What these forums are for really.

Agree with most of what you've said here though, and it will definitely be interesting to see what Carlo picks when (if) we have a fully fit squad.

The one point I'd make though is that if this injury had been timed differently, he'd only miss a couple of games (during an international break or FA weekend). So I think it is more about the length of the injury rather than games missed, from a pragmatic point of view.

Anyway, I've got a bottle of Dead Man's Fingers for tonight's drinking pleasure. Wish me luck!

At the end of the day we are all blues and looking to returning to the type of successes that we enjoyed under Howie and Harry. Just want our club to get back up there and I think Carlo can do it.

Tonight is a bottle of malt whisky Aerstone waiting to be cracked. Happy New Year to you.

What concerns me is this..

James not been fully fit since he arrived & watching him play looks only 70% fit at best...

How many games will he actually play for us due to injury...

He is injury prone & has old injuries that appear to be reoccurring...

He can not put a full shift in & we have gaping holes in our midfield when he plays causing problems with our defence...

If this continues throughout the season you have to ask the question : Do the positives outweigh the negatives...?

In my opinion the answer will be no...

The flashes of brilliance will only be brief & intermittent...

He will spend most of the season on the bench or on the treatment table....
After the first five league games of the season he was the top creative midfielder in the premier league statistically. I can’t remember the numbers but I remember he was and it was goals, assists and chances created not the kind of stats that can be manipulated. He was also outstanding against West Ham in the cup in that period too.
From that point he’s not looked the same but to say he’s only ever been 70% fit is mad because if that were true you are saying he can be an extra 30% better than he started the season when he was already beating the likes of De Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, Grealish etc.

Any tightening up we have seen in James's absence has been more to do with a change in formation AND the absence of the marauding non-defenders we call our first-choice full backs. It's not James's absence that has been key, but the lay-offs of Coleman and especially Digne, players who we can all clearly admit are better going forward than they ever are at the back.

So, rather than simplistically fingering James as the problem, maybe we could look at how we set up and consider whether the absence of "defenders" who cannot defend has been more significant. I suspect a simple swap out of Sigurdsson for James is where we are going in the near future. Our full backs will have to learn to defend more if they want to push out the two centre halves who have done great work in their absence.

How many games is that? His injury is not Gbamin level is it?

Oh let me help you. With the games against WHU it will be 7 and if City game had gone ahead it would have been 8. So who is the weirdo now?

Anyone who thought James was going to come here and play 38 league games needs their bumps feeling tbh! He clearly wasn’t fully fit when he arrived. He then got absolutely clattered by Victim Van Dyke early in the derby and hasn’t been right since! I’d rather he plays when Carlo says he’s fit enough to play and play properly, as opposed to playing when not right and continually breaking down!
If he contributes in 20-25 league games, and the later stages of the cup that’ll do me! Let’s face it we haven’t been doing too bad while he’s been out! Just try and enjoy watching him when he plays!

My point is that he has not been fully fit & he can not sustain that kind of form due to his lack of fitness & old injuries etc etc etc...

He can produce some magical moments but unfortunately he will struggle to make many games for us due to his legs carrying old injuries which will affect his performance & game time on the pitch...
