Thiago coming ok for that shower was a reminder of what having someone with a bit of vision in your team can do to a performance. We won’t keep grinding out narrow wins the way we have been. We need James back as soon as possible to get the types of performances we saw in the first half against Fulham which put the game almost away from the opposition.

James had played hardly any football before joining, so it was always going to be the case that after an intially burst, he might tire quickly or pick up an injury.
The team is playing effectively in his absence, and will utilise him when he is back to full fitness.

I wonder if he'll just be used as more of an impact sub for the rest of the season, if we can manage without him for 50/60 minutes like we have been then let him come on, could benefit him and us by keeping him fit and effective

Look at this latest round of fixtures. Other than Leeds hammering of West Brom, they've all been low scoring games, with not a single side scoring more than two goals.

Our massive improvement in not allowing the opposition to score two goals per game is what has led to us being in the top four at the end of the year. I'm keen to keep it that way!
Agree!

Utilise is the word. If we have a fit Digne, Coleman, Allan, Richie and Doucs then it does not matter if James, Siggy, Bernard make up the attacking element in midfield. With those five and our central defence options we are winning.

Think he’s the type of player who needs to be playing regularly in a rhythm which he was doing at the beginning of the season just doing a game a week no problem. Then that carthorse Van Dijk clattered him and it took him a while to get back to that level again which he was almost back to against Fulham, Leeds and Burnley before this injury.

Im not sure bringing him off the bench now and then will do him any good. We need tog e back to playing him in a regular routine and try and keep him fit.

Our defence has become much stronger. It has gone from conceding at least a goal a game to constant clean sheets, other than one penalty. That is not average play at all. It shows a massive improvement in our defensive play. It's the type of defensive record that a title winning side has.
The best sides are based on a solid defense. The hardest part is always finding that blend of defensive solidity and attacking flair/creativity. Even some (maybe most) great sides relied on one more than the other. eg. Lippi's Juventus or Cruyff's Barcelona.

Ancelotti has a good track record of finding the right blend so I'm Hopeful he'll know how to work with James without sacrificing our new found defensive strength.

Id like to lock some of these posters up in a room with their eyes taped open and force them to watch full match reruns of our games over the previous 5 or so seasons

We have an actual footballer for once and they want to plonk him on the bench for fear we might lose defensive cover...

Change the whole fecking team and shape around to do that if its needed but James is no1 on the team sheet everytime right now when fit.

Maybe they are just working on him physically to hold up better in the premier league. He wasn’t playing regularly before he joined us and it’s a tough league to come into. Maybe they’re doing extra work to try and prevent him breaking down again. Especially as it seems we aren’t desperate to get him back with the forthcoming fixtures. The only way you get physically ready for the premier league though is to play in it.....

He's boss everyone knows he's boss, also lazy and precious (asking bench to come off) but still boss.

I just hope he's not precious enough to be milking this injury because it's cold out there at the moment.

Precisely. Our new lineup probably took Lampard by surprise, Rodgers just played the same way he always does, Arteta had Arsenal in a death spiral at the time, and Wilder’s Sheffield United almost blunted us.

Moyes is exactly the type of manager who will have looked at our 4231 formation and have a tactic for counteracting it and dealing with our set pieces. There may be a point on Friday when we our crying out for the type of invention James brings.

He’s the type of player that can win a game in 20 minutes of one of his good spells. We have to get him back as quickly as possible if we want to do anything this season.
