Cant fault him for his lack of physical attributes, i just worry for him. He is slow,small and easily out muscled. He needs players around him making positive runs at the moment his only option is pass it out wide to digne.
He never really picked up the ball outside the box where he can do most damage. He was coming deep for the ball .

Unfortunately he has the physical attributes of a schoolboy which is why he did not play yesterday.

I have been critical of James in the past and was attacked for it but cannot blame fulham embarrasment on him.
No attacking game plan, playing gomes siggy and james all pedestrian slow players and resting both keane and mina (one of them has to play)
Defensive backline way too deep which gave them the whole pitch to play.

Are we wrong to pin some kind of hope that his blatent, incredible at times, talent cant turn a game on its head like he has shown in brief moments this season?

The issue is its very inconsistent. Like richarlison, he will sulk his way through a game if its not gone his way. Difference being, as ineffective hes been in attack and with the ball, he will work hard off it.

James does some mad little shuttle run, albeit in treacle, to close someone down knowing full well he isnt getting near the ball, leaving absolute space behind him. Happened time and time again last night.

Yes the whole team were crap and carlos tactics mystifying, but its James Rodriguez. He is by far our best player, but theres no hiding from the fact he has shown multiple times he doesnt like it when hes not getting a yard more space or against firmer, more aggressive sides.

He sat down after barely any contact last night and gave some sheepish look at the bench. Hes a luxury player, a talent but many times this season hes been a passenger.

We went toe to toe with a good RS side (even including their recent wobbles they're probably no worse than the 5th best team in the league) and James was probably the best player on the pitch for us on that day.

The second part is the truth and imo going to hold us back.

We had a really bad run of results which I think caused Ancelotti to change to the defensive shape and generally it's worked well. Problem is coming against your Fulhams and Newcastles because we can't adapt our game to attack.

After about 20 minutes James was coming back into our half to get the ball off Holgate or Godfrey. Not once did Davies or Doucouré change what they were doing to try and get the ball themselves.

Sad but literally all the opposition need to do is go through him early doors and that’s him done for the game, he doesn’t like the dogs of war approach to games.

Don’t really blame him given where he’s come from and the teams he’s played for. Pointless playing him if we are gonna play as turgid as we do at home against lesser opposition.
