If that's the case he was on over £11M at Madrid.

Add that to his salary here is over £7M.

I dont think the word "free" has much place in describing how much this player cost Everton.

That pass alone in the Derby was worth £7m.

The argument is about whether he's taking the proverbial urine, not about his quality. Clearly he's the best footballer at the club by a country mile, but are the downsides worth it?

I'd have said yes a month or so ago. But now, after what's played out and Ancelottis comments about poor attitudes, I'm not so sure.

Stop derailing the thread.
Hey, well done, I didn’t think you were capable of that sort of irony.

Oh and on you oh-so-original “ahhh Tranmere” shout (did you think that up all by yourself btw? Kudos) - I spent every week day of my first 4 years on Bardsay Road with my grandfather, who was a huge Evertonian and went to Gwladys Street School. Does that meet your inane purity test fella?

We finished 10th mate.

That's the difference he made.

And we've had the absolute maximum out of him in terms of games played. Ild expect less games on the pitch next season.

I thought we paid the player his final (?) year salary instead of RM.

So technically a free, but then, not actually for nothing.

Either way, he is magic.

The same with Bernard roydo, when he first came in loads were saying we got him on a free but without taking into account the massive signing on fee we had to give him to sign and then the huge wages :(

It seems to me that Rodriguez didn’t think, in his head, that he was fit to play for Everton in the last few weeks he was here, but a week later, home in Colombia, he thought, in his head, he was fit enough to play for his country. I don’t think he was telling lies, but it looks like he wanted to play for his country more than the club who pays his wages, and I understand he has a big affinity to his country but hardly any to Everton, that doesn’t seem right to me.

It looks like all he was thinking about was being fit for Colombia mate and if that meant not playing for us because he wasn’t 100% fit then it was a case of so be it. To me me it looks like a case of country before club.

Take out his contributions as we would be about 15th.
Not to mention the chances he created that our other players blew due to being garbage.

I don't think the poor attitude thing was aimed specifically at James, certainly not exclusively. He is 1 of the few winners in the team. Carlo will be annoyed at the chances people have had to do thinks and have wilted under the pressure they put on themselves. They weren't even big games.

Yes, he is probably as frustrated as anyone at James fitness issues, because he is the 1 player who can make things happen, even when he's not 100%. And for James himself, he has clearly played at times when he's not fit. Multiple times. And Carlo has said as much earlier in the season when he said he didn't think he was fit and James said he was and wanted to play.

He showed how much it meant when we won the Derby. I'm not buying the angle that he doesn't care. But it's been a very long and unusual year. New country, struggling side, no preseason, trying to overcome a niggling injury, no fans, packed schedule, not seeing his family for a year due to COVID, and all while there are troubles in his home land.

Give the lad a break. He's the best player we've had for decades, not years. Get other players in to do the running and a decent back up option so we don't have to rely on him every week and force him to play when he's not ready, and just watch what he can do with a year to settle in and a proper pre season under his belt. I have a feeling we will see the best of him next season with fans back in the ground and more competitive squad and starting 11.
