So he’s staying, for now, which is a positive for us because he’s still really good and can help us at least win a few games

until then, we have to use him. Maybe in games where we’ll see the ball more, you can sacrifice Townsend’s work rate for James - put Richy out wide in his place - and then when we’re on the back foot swap them around again. Think that’s a good balance
Plus, he shouldn’t be the only target for us having a bad window. Blame everything that’s come before him - Koeman, Walsh, Bolasie, Tosun, Walcott, Sandro, Williams, [REDACTED] et al - for the situation we’re in financially.

I mean, we get more traffic from Bootle in a week than we do in a year from Colombia, but James Rodriguez has took Colombia from 32nd to 26th in GOT's most visited audience. That has to count for something.

It is hard to imagine that he is so toxic that no other club wanted him or that Ja.es is so greedy that he has chosen to remain with us rather than earn less money but play more football.

As I’ve been pretty consistent with now for the last year mate the only positivity with Brands for me is that it’s some form of continuity

I think you overestimate the amount of loyalty people will hand to a player who has insulted the club and underlined how lacking in commitment he is to it. Yes there will be a hrad core of people who'll have the knives out for Benitez and use the James issue as a stick to beat him with, but it's not as if he's a club legend. He's a player who doesn't want to be here and the vast majority recognize that and will understand a manager that doesn't start him in games.

I agree about Benitez having the team firing at present but saying James won't run and isn't disciplined is clearly incorrect. Ancelotti openly admitted that he gave James a free role in the team, meaning that he was not expected to contribute hugely from a defensive point of view.
That said, I remember seeing stats when we were fourth around last Christmas that identified that even though James role was not defensive he was around the same statistical defensive margins as Gomes and Iwobi.
Ancelotti’s formation changes, which were in large parts the result of working around injuries, were key to improving performances, not Rodriguez. He played as directed which was as our attacking brain but still offered similar defensively to those mentioned.

It seems that people are or have rewritten history in their minds, which happens, but as I mentioned in an earlier post a lot of ill-feeling will have come from him being so visible and vocal on social media and a line spun that he wasn't carrying an injury but simply lazy.
Mate, the club couldn’t move him on. That’s all it is. Porto couldn’t make the deal work, and we wanted Diaz - a player who is all about pace and width, and offered a player in James who couldn’t be more opposite.
since he’s still here we have to use him in some capacity. He’s a quality player and Goodison deserves to see him play in front of fans too
