No mate. If you compare Beckham's fame in the UK to James' in Colombia, it's nowhere near.

Beckham is, or was, a football icon, but in Colombia, James is a national icon. It's a country that lives and breathes football.

I'd hazard a guess if you googled the most famous people in Colombia, he'd be in the top 10 of just about every list, for something that's so subject to individual opinion. He's that huge there.

You could say he lives in a bubble, detached from many aspects of everyday life, but you could also say he lives in a goldfish bowl.

Maybe @Sassy Colombian or @UptheTofees could offer more insight.
Beckham was an international superstar but no social media, that's the only difference. Mad if you don't think he was as big as James is.

The vast majority of his supporters on here acknowledge that he probably won't fit like a glove with the managers tactics. They accept that he will only play a bit part in the season, and that will actually do him good because his body isn't upto week in week out 90 minutes premier league. He needs to get himself fit because he's missed a lot of training for whatever reason. But then it's upto the manager to show his pragmatism and integrate him into the squad and team.

There will be games when the managers tactics aren't working and the ability to introduce his undoubted quality from the bench could help save games and even turn them around. I think Benitez will play him if he is available, because as much as I dislike the man (not the manager) I don't believe him to be a fool. From what I've seen on here the vast majority of people saying he won't play him are Benitez supporters.
If the manager can use him then that's great. My argument is that he's leaving here for sure within the next 10 months when his contract expires, and if the manager sees fit not to use him at all then that has to be accepted and respected. He's the manager, he'll do things his way.

And he will move on either in January or the end of the season.

The point is the club shouldn't move him out right now, pay another team £50-100k a week to play for them, when we can't get a replacement in ourselves.

Everyone accepts he is going either in Jan or next May, Dave. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't use him while he's here. And like I said, the option of moving him on (and pay another club for the pleasure) when we can't replace him is stupid.
Depends entirely on whether the manager believes he has the right attitude. If he thinks his inclusion will rankle other players more committed to the cause then he cant do that AND retain a corps esprit.

It needs to be accepted because there's absolutely nothing that we can do about it. But in no way does it have to be respected.

Rafael Benitez, like any other employee of Everton FC including all the players, has to earn my respect. It isn't given freely as I know for an absolute truth that your respect isn't given freely either Dave. If he does good things, which in fairness he has since he's been here, then I'll commend him for it. But if he does things I don't agree with, like refuse to play to James because of a 5 year old fallout, then I'm buggered if I'm giving the guy any resect for that.
