You missed the point about my post. I was talking about exposure and that’s definitely more valuable than shirts. I was just pointing out that I didn’t buy a James shirt because I’m here for the long run.
I was under the impression that the club gets more money for things like their games being the first choice on international feeds and so on. Where I am in Perú it was noticeable last year how many more Everton games were the main one on ESPN compared to the previous year (since the Directv contract ended a couple years ago basically ESPN shows a game, maybe 2, at a time, and the rest get shunted off to streaming, which hardly anybody is watching ESPN on down here).

Before, it was like if Everton was playing Manchester City or Chelsea, or playing at a time with no other game conflicting, it'd be on, and the promotion thing would only show up during the previous game and have a picture of Yerry (ESPN being regional down here, as far as I know we get what Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador get, so things are promoted as such).

Last year it was James James James on that stuff, often as a key game promoted from the previous week, and I wouldn't be surprised if promotion and programming were both similar in the southern half of the continent.

According to what I saw ( https://www.statista.com/statistics...ments-to-clubs-in-the-english-premier-league/ ), EFC's income from international TV in 19-20 was about 1.5M GBP less than Southampton's and about 1.5M GBP above Newcastle's. Sheffield made almost 4.5M more than Everton on that! I can't find the breakdown for that specific source for 20-21, but I know that Everton was one of the few to see their broadcast revenue noticeably increase for 20-21, while clubs around them in the table saw theirs drop significantly, so James just being there probably did make the club a fairly decent amount of cash relative to what otherwise would've been made.

There's three issues here with James for me:

1/ I see him as a creative player - but one who wont be able to fit regularly into the new system.
2/ I think he's been less than professional in the last 4 months with his comings and goings and social media output.
3/ I can see that he is being weaponised by the anti-Benitez crowd in order to undermine the manager. Not his fault, but that's unwanted.

He needs to move on. Best of luck to him when he does, as he's not a player I dislike. But he's not doing us or himself any favours by staying any longer.
Dave.

I don't disagree with either of the first 2 points. I also agree that he is being used as a pawn in the Benitez spat, but I would argue it is mainly the pro Benitez crowd that are doing the weaponising if anything, but probably both sides are to a greater and lesser degree.

I also agree that, as much as I like the player, it would have been better had he moved on. He's obviously not wanted by the club and manager and in such situations it's usually better for all concerned if the player moves on.

But the fact is he didn't. He's still contracted to the club, he's said he's prepared to stay here and see out his contract. Although he may have been less than professional with his use of twitter, he hasn't really said or done anything that has disrespected the club or the manager. He's turned up for training on time, he's never said he wants to leave or doesn't want to play for us. he's never criticised the fans or other players. Basically he hasn't done anything to warrant the level of stick he is getting on here from some quarters.

The vast majority of his supporters on here acknowledge that he probably won't fit like a glove with the managers tactics. They accept that he will only play a bit part in the season, and that will actually do him good because his body isn't upto week in week out 90 minutes premier league. He needs to get himself fit because he's missed a lot of training for whatever reason. But then it's upto the manager to show his pragmatism and integrate him into the squad and team.

There will be games when the managers tactics aren't working and the ability to introduce his undoubted quality from the bench could help save games and even turn them around. I think Benitez will play him if he is available, because as much as I dislike the man (not the manager) I don't believe him to be a fool. From what I've seen on here the vast majority of people saying he won't play him are Benitez supporters.

FFS how many times. He didn't go AWOL he was 'kin injured. If he'd done anything wrong he would have been disciplined and fined by the club.

All you haters Dave are just clutching at straws trying to find reasons to demonise him. The truth is, other than his fitness reliability and a few ill advised tweets, he hasn't done anything to warrant the hate that's being chucked at him by a section of our supporters. It's crazy.
I'm not sure they are all 'our' supports :(

This is better, Dave, and more of the high levels you usually deliver. It is not so blatant as to go full WUM but almost offers an olive branch but whilst at the same time kicking him in the gonads and telling him to koff lad with a friendly pat on the back at the end. ?

The Rafatollah isn't a Kopite but even if he was:

1.Digne has You'll Never Walk Alone tattooed across his chest

2.Baines/Reid were Kopites

Bet you never have / had a bad word said against any of the above.
Isn't one of the chapters in one of Benitezs books entitled "kopite for life."

@Theoneandonly will surely know being president of the Benitez fan club.

And he will move on either in January or the end of the season.

The point is the club shouldn't move him out right now, pay another team £50-100k a week to play for them, when we can't get a replacement in ourselves.

Everyone accepts he is going either in Jan or next May, Dave. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't use him while he's here. And like I said, the option of moving him on (and pay another club for the pleasure) when we can't replace him is stupid.

You should have gone with something like:

1/ I agree with you, Dave, he is our most creative player who could, as you say, easily fit regularly into any system.
2/ Again, I think you are spot on in that he has had to deal with wholly unprofessional treatment from Benitez over the last 4 months in spite of his continued support for the club.
3/ I too can see that he is being slandered and weaponised by the pro-Benitez crowd in order to undermine his position. Not his fault, and this is unwanted.

Ultimately Benitez needs to act reasonably or move on. Best of luck to him if he does, as he's not a manager I dislike. But he's not doing us or himself any favours by staying any longer.

According to what I have read on Royal Blue Mersey it has been made clear to him hi does not fit in and is not wanted. There was a suggestion from another player just rip up your contract and say good bye!
Do you honestly think that a footballer would say to one of his team mates, go on mate rip up that you are on, the one that's like the one I'm on, and then when my face doesn't fit I can rip mine up as well.

Seems a bit far fetched.
