Player Valuation: £80m
We need to get someone creatve in behind the strikers, for sure.
But that player also has to have a work ethic too.
And be fit for more than just a few games.

Getting hurt is not a mental problem.JR is a very good player. My criticism of him has been that he is not in the physical shape that a top player should be, and that he is not mentally robust enough. In addition, football has developed to the point that everyone on the team must contribute when the ball is to be recovered. Most people think of tiki taka when they think of Guerdiola's Barcelona, but the most significant was the offensive marking and the way they pressed the opponent immediately after the ball loss. This is perhaps the foremost characteristic of modern football, and especially if you want to dominate the matches through ball possession. There is no doubt that JR is technically good enough, but it takes far more to be at the top of European football in 2021. A weak point, and the opponent will deliberately take advantage of it. We also saw this clearly last year. So it has to be included in the equation when you look at JR's statistical contributions.
I provided a player analysis on a player at my local club. Everyone said that this player was very good, and absolutely essential for the team. He plays defensive midfield. I found out that he won the ball from the opponent by far the most of all on the field, but I also found out that he had clearly the most passing errors, and that the sum of this was actually negative for the team. When I analyzed where on the field he lost the ball, this became even more critical. The opponent's tactic should simply be to lose the ball to this player, and then put pressure on the player. Then you will most likely produce many great goal chances. So statistics must always be considered in a larger context. Nevertheless, I was able to use this information to tell the coach that the player in question must develop his passing game, and when he regains the ball, it must be sent (most often) to the nearest teammate.

He's definitely not lazy. But he's not in the best physical condition because of his injuries. I don't see how he'd fit the style that we played 2nd half on Sat, if that is the style we'll be going with moving forward. I'm a JR fanboy by the way and would also be gutted if he goes. But we played like a Moyes side on Sat and I can't see how he fits into that. His fitness is the issue for Me, not his work ethic.
He works when he is on the pitch, more offensively of course, but he still works and tracks back - the shout of James being lazy is just well, lazy.
Surely the more important factoid is how many players in our squad contributed more goals than Rodriguez.@Brennan factamundo of the day: "only 21 players in the entire league contributed more goals than Rodriguez".
How can we allow this talent to leave the club?
Goddamn you Benitez.
He'd be just what the doctor ordered if he rocked up now.Dacourt?
Dacourt was boss!
Not enough times do we see him getting behind the ball. His fitness is there. He just wont extend himself for any club. He takes a lot of time out.His fitness is the issue for Me, not his work ethic.

He's a forward, of course he'll contribute goals. That's expected.Surely the more important factoid is how many players in our squad contributed more goals than Rodriguez.
I'm not sure where that stat has come from anyway.
Disagree. It is not enough to know, but you must have enough intensity in your sprints to press well enough. Playing progressively is physically demanding.Getting hurt is not a mental problem.
James can be adequate out of possession in a pressing team as he knows how to play angles and cut passing lanes. What he can't do is cover back 50 yards against a fullback for 90 minutes. In a progressive team his off the ball work is less of an issue but that isn't us.
He's shown an ability to do it though even here. Problem being the rest of the team cannot press.Disagree. It is not enough to know, but you must have enough intensity in your sprints to press well enough. Playing progressively is physically demanding.
I get what you mean, but conversely, I'd like to think a highly paid football manager could find a way to utilise the obvious talent and game changing ability that James can bring to a side, especially in those tighter matches, against a well drilled defence, where he can drop into the spaces and put in the killer passes to the forwards/runners.He's definitely not lazy. Pipe Sierra (Colombian soccer transfer expert) states here that there is nothing today with Atletico. Their has been mutual interest for years, but they would need to sell Saul to have a need and while he is apparently in some demand, there is nothing concrete there as of today. So several dominos would need to move for this to amount to anything.
Again - someone needs to take James' phone out of his hands. He isnt helping himself.
