Training videos I’ve seen him in he looks quite happy here, money may help. But surely he must want to play, his problem is he can’t walk into the team like when ever he wanted like last season. Tbh atm he probably couldn’t get on the bench.

I don’t understand why he wouldn’t want to play, personally.

It has to be something in the middle, maybe it is Benitez wanting more from him. Obviously we don’t know what happens behind the scenes, but given Ancelotti gave him such a free pass, I’m sure it must be the exact opposite of what he expected.

Hes an amazing talent, and I’m sure in the back of his mind, he’ll want to be getting back in the National Team, and he can’t play in a World Cup, if they don’t qualify, and he can’t help that, if he’s not playing.

I’d like to see him get a go, and with how paper thin we could be, with a few injuries, I hope he’s not being frozen out.

It was great to see so clearly, though for large parts painfully, how much James would have improved our overall play tonight.

Benitez's mental condition was sadly on show again during the first half in which he walked the touchline line looking like some bounder had glued his hand to his head.

I'd taken seats in the family enclosure tonight as we had the young ones with us.

Toward the end of the first half, as the men in blue were approaching 45 minutes of merciless rogering from Burnley, an exasperated teen near to us squeaked "where's James?"

Benitez instinctively reacted in a way that I can only describe as being reminiscent of Bilbo Baggins when he spotted the ring around Frodo's neck!

Luckily Brands saw the entire incident.

I understand your confusion. Sadly it is Madrid part 2. Benitez used the exact same 'James is not match fit' line then and it got him fired. Still, if the manager can keep us in the top two until Christmas he might just get a stay of execution. I think he has every chance of succeeding, especially if he plays our best player.

The best he can hope for at the moment is a place on the bench, say though if we start doing the impossible and stay near the top, would he then become interested, I think I read somewhere he said we weren’t good enough for him (could be media talk) well he can thank his mate Carlos for us he made a right mess of things. I know it’s early days but I feel massively more confident with Rafael in charge than Ancelotti.
You probably read that in here mate because there's about a dozen nobheads in here that make stuff up about him all the time. It's all in their minds.

The simple fact is he isn't in the managers plans. Whilst we're winning then nobody can really question him about it. When we start dropping points it becomes a different matter. Benitez got his tactics wrong tonight but fortunately didn't do any damage as we/he were able to turn it around against a poor team.

For his part, James has to work hard and show willing in training, which apparently he is. He will get his opportunity, either through injuries or poor results, and it's upto him then to take advantage of the situation when it comes..

He’s on Real Madrid money whatever that is because he won’t have taken any pay cuts coming here, pay cuts are not his thing as we’ve discovered. Why would he?

This situation is not of his making but if he wants his next contract to look anything like his last one, even half, he’s going to have to convince the manager he is a team player. At the moment this manager doesn’t think that he is.

There was no market for him this summer at his current salary and no market for him with Everton subsiding his salary and if he doesn’t play there won’t be much of a market for him next summer, free agent or not. That’s the reality.

He definitely didn’t say that.
