But he is neither worse than useless (actually the opposite) nor disruptive. He is unreliable due to his injuries/fitness and this could have been managed better under Ancelotti. There is room for James in a well balanced squad. This is why we have a squad.

I think he's pulling away rather than being pushed away. So the emphasis should be on him.

I'm looking for what's best for the club in terms of coherence and best value. I really dont think James adds to that.

We've told him he's welcome to go if we get an offer in. He's happy to leave but if no offer comes in he'll stay. In the latter instance, he simply has to be used.

Doesn't mean use him every game. Doesn't mean use him from the start in every game and doesn't mean you build a team around him.

Have him as the very tasty, good looking cherry on top of a solid cake. Not the entire cake.

He was injured and out for the rest of the season. He didn't even make the Copa America and it's well documented how much he loves playing for his country. His family were back in Colombia and he'd hardly seen them for the best part of a year due to the covid pandemic.

The club allowed him to travel back to Colombia early to be with his family. I'm not sure what this critical game was that you speak of, but not being there for a game he was unable to play in anyway is not a valid reason for the club selling him IMO. Anybody who does needs to take a long cold look at how they prioritise things.

It was a critical game as if we won we would have qualified for Europe....

I didn't say i would sell him for that reason either. If he doesn't want to be here, which his cryptic messages seem to indicate as being the case then he can go. If he wants to stay and be committed to the cause then great - but I don't want him doing some part time act.

I am always all for talented players. They have to fit into the team ethic though. If not they are worse than useless, they are disruptive.

I think we'll see Benitez's team getting the ball back to front and wide very quickly. That might have to be the only tactic this seasoin until we can secure a midfield we dont have to by-pass.

If that is our "only tactic this season" then other teams will figure that out very quickly and we will struggle badly. There has to be a plan B and James is a very expensive plan B, that I will accept, but he can do things no other player at the club can do. If we are completely one dimensional we will have a very long season.

I agree. We need another option - something I stated on the DCL thread on Saturday night.

However, that threat from the middle of the park might have to come from Doucoure carrying the ball rather than, say, James playing forward balls in the final third.

If we can shift him out and get a RB in and another CM option in by the end of the window we'll have done well in the current climate and the Great Everton Reset.

if the plan B relies on doucure.... dear god... despite his last game , he is still god awful with the ball, 1 good game wont change this, doucure is pretty mediocre and offers zero inside game.

ive said in other posts, 2021 everton is about crossing it to DCL/richy (who is a pretty good header) , non header shots will come from rebounds or fast breaks, dont ever xpec a 1-2 combination on the inside or a forward pass try defenses to leave 1 v1 the strikers it just wont happen. once the opposition figures out everton unidemensional cross fest it will be hard to score agaist em.
