2021/22 James Rodriguez

It's very obvious that Benitez didn't want James, for his own reasons - doesn't fit his style, doesn't want to coach him, he doesn't want to be coached - whatever. Most of the posts I have done about being surprised by our decisions I have brought down to the good old choice that either the club has no strategy or is changing the strategy dramatically from year to year. Either way its stupid.
So how can the major investment in James - including the branding - be suddenly changed 11 months later. James was not a clever choice for a pandemic. Just imagine if he had been to do signing events at Everton One, Everton Two, imagine if we had done a player reveal in part of the ground or something...all clever commercial things that we do. And imagine if James had actually played in a team that had complementary skills around him, to allow him to also play to his strengths.

It's just another example of how we are lurching from one strategy to the next . In the past 5 years we have had:
- Spend big to buy success - 'Hollywood Koeman'
- PANIC! - Allardyce
- Ajax Dortmund Wannabes = young manager, DOF - Silva
- We think we're Barcelona and we can have our own - Big Dunc, Unsworth
- We're a big club - Ancelotti & James
- Sorry, we're actually Newcastle and have no money, see you later! - Benitez

I just don't buy that James is not committed and has a bad attitude. He is an old fashioned luxury player who works well if the team can accommodate him. We cant' accommodate him because our tactics and personnel don't match and Benitez won't or doesn't want to. This summer he has been given nothing to make him feel part of the club or that he's wanted, so equally he's just distancing himself so that he can get a move out. Why would he engage in badge kissing and go for a walk around BOld St with Tom Davies or get an Everton Tattoo if he's been told he's not wanted here? Obviously he's going to appear like he doesn't care about the club, cos the club doesn't care about him and doesn't want him! Well played Everton, you've got the PR right in this finally, in making us feel good about getting rid of the most exciting player we've had in years

Ozil v2. Great player, but the rest aren't good enough to accommodate him. Surely the only question now is which Turkish club we should loan him out to

I only come for carlo.
who we playing this week
I’m off home while you play man city
My legs are tired
For Benitez (see zidane)

But in your opinion it’s the clubs fault.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

The idea that we’re mid table because we get rid of Rodriguez is bollocks. We were mid table before him, mid table with him and will likely be mid table after him.

Teams like Leicester and Wolves didn’t break into the top 8 over recent years by signing players like Rodriguez. They signed players who fit a specific system with a vision of how the team would perform week in week out, and created a bit of stability within the club. That’s what we’re lacking and have been for years, drifting from different manager to different manager all with different play styles and signing players who fit the vision of the manager we then sack two minutes later, or sometimes don’t fit at all.

I honestly think we’ll look back on this situation and be amazed so much airtime was given to a discussion about a player who played about half a season for us.
I didn’t say it was right. I think he’s been very good when he played and I’d like to think he can contribute a lot this season if used correctly.

we need rid because of our financial position and that’s why I’m angry at the club

Yes, because it's stupid to buy James during a pandemic ... and to buy someone who's only here for Ancelotti, knowing that Ancelotti is going to go anytime Real come back . Ok we can't have predicted that exactly, but I think that after appointing Ancelotti, we realised that he's only gonna work out if we throw money at an entire squad overhaul, which was not possible even in December 2019, never mind after the pandemic.

Look, I'm in the mood to blame my club for everything, and I know it's not entirely Moshiri, Brands and DBB, but 5 years of totally different strategies on players and managers is just wrong. We could have spent £250m on a less experienced manager + DOF for 3 years, and we'd have still been yo-yo between 6th and 12th place, but we'd have a settled younger squad. We have not recovered from Koeman + Walsh, but we have not tried hard enough to recover.

lol lol lol
He is undoubtedly a fantastic talent, but you really are in denial if you think his behaviour is in any way professional.

I think it's the same as Kane and any player who either wants to go, or has been told he has to go. what do you expect him to do? Loads of players switch off from the club when they know they're not wanted, and especially someone like James who has no historical or personal connection ot Everton. Should he go in and watch training and cheer on Tom Davies and Fabian Delph ? Of course his attitude now is not right for us, he's already gone, but it didn't have to be this way. He might have worked but we are being restyled on the pitch. I'm glad that our appraoch is more hard-working football, i just feel sad that we had this little glimpse of being a commercially big club too, but we didn't have the leadership to make it work

He was extremely good for the first half of the season then lost his form and had lots of injuries second half of the season. Similar to the form of the team.

I've said it before, but I think hes been happy to leave ever since Ancelotti left. This needs to be sorted out ASAP.

The issue isn't that he goes on Twitch. He can talk about gaming and whatever else he likes as much as he wants.

Its just the daft comments like not knowing who we play and chat about his future and availability that are the problem. That stuff should be kept in house. To talk about it to randomers online is unprofessional.

But playing games and letting people watch along and comment? Who cares... his free time is his own time.

Anyway, we've reached the point where the current situation is in no one's interest. He isn't wanted and he wants to leave. It is what it is - do a deal and reinvest the money in a good right back so some good can come from this.
Yes, this is my point. I couldn't care less if he goes online and broadcasts to the world...providing he remains professional and discreet. The thing is, with James, you just knew that him broadcasting to the world was always likely to result in accidental or deliberate indiscretions that nobody needs. He comes across as a loose cannon, a deeply immature 30-year old, and really I suspect that this is just a negative perception rather than the reality. He's a wonderful player, but given the craziness at our club this summer, we really do not need the drama.

You are emotional, I get it! You probably haven't seen many players at Everton with outstanding technique, such as James. However, ask yourself why hasn't any other Premiership Club enquired about him? It's glaringly obvious isn't it? HE DOES NOT LIKE THE PHYSICALITY OF THE PREMIERSHIP. He craves extra protection from the refs during games. He doesn't want to be asked to go into a battle/war. Rafael will never endorse this type of attitude. He will find another club outside of the premiership and no doubt only play half the season there as well. A truly great player that has never truly realised his potential.

A devastating, depressing, and wholly accurate assessment of the situation.
