Confirmed Signing James Tarkowski

Good deal for me if it comes to pass, taking everything in, cost, need and player, in fact a bit of a no brainer. Ultimately all that matters is getting to BMD in the PL this dude helps - significantly i think.

I think we need this type of character in that line, he's shown leadership and we need that at the back. Keane can be brilliant or just fall apart. Checked this morning and in his Everton career Yerry has played in just under 50% of PL games in his time here. Godfrey, Holgate and Braintwaite aren't ready to be the leading senior centre back.

I think we could actually do with an experienced player who can offer stability and consistency, who will lead as opposed to someone like Colwil or Greaves who i have seen us linked with.

Not sure we've had all of that consistently since Jags.

While no world beater he is a proven Premier League centre half who is not going to cost us anything, though I am sure he will want his wage to reflect that. It is difficult to see how he won't improve our defence and he seems physically capable of standing the rigours of the Premier League. Will he turn us into a Champions League team, no he won't, will he help prevent us becoming a Championship team, yes he will. We need to turn Everton around, we will do this incrementally, we aren't going to become Manchester City overnight.
For years we have gone into transfer windows knowing exactly what our problems were and ended up buying wingers or No. 10s that just drained resources and resulted in a completely unbalanced squad. At least we seem to be looking at a player who will help us deal with a major problem area.

….these contracts are complex and I dare say his lawyers will be going through the detail. He might have agreed a deal in principle.

i always remember Niasse leaving FF a couple of hours before deadline and posters panicking only for him to return and sign with moments to spare.

Yeah, I'm sure that'll be it.

Lawyers taking their time...

Bank Holiday isn't it?!

I don’t mean he won’t be committed on the pitch, I’m just echoing what GOT was saying. Saying we want young, hungry players and then signing a 29 year old who needs a few weeks to decide if he wants to come don’t really marry up to me. Like I say, I don’t blame him or think it’s a disgrace or anything, just not really what you want to see.
Completely agree .

I want to see younger , determined , hungry players who give everything for the team rather than a team filled with Rondon , Gomes , Kenny and pre Lampard Iwobi ( hopefully the penny has dropped with him now ).

However I think that centre half is the one position ( maybe keeper too ) where you want an experienced player to organise the defence.

I'd definately like to see a younger better quality player alongside Tarkowski ( if he signs ) but our financial situation is perilous and we will have to accept a couple of Bosman signing I think.

Burnley fans seem to rate him, but not necessarily as the commanding figure he's being made out to be. As others have mentioned before, that's Ben Mee for them. Tarkowski was the supporting, ball-playing one of the pair.
So whos our Ben Mee?

Bloke can’t be hungry/want to be here as well as be able to enjoy a holiday with his family first?

Plus, if it’s his last pay day, fair play to him in doing his due diligence first. He’ll have had options, he’s allowed to consider them.

You’re reaching I reckon mate.

Maybe mate.

But I reckon if I search your username for Tosun, Bolasie and Martina you'd be raving about them transfers too.

Sometimes you have to call a spade, a spade.

James Tarkowski has put Everton on the back burner.

Just like Koeman did.

Is that true ? Crumbs if he's a ball playing centre half Mee must be horrific.

When I've had to watch Burnley ( I must admit I avoid it ) they both looked like they attacked the ball and were pure defenders

In his defence we don't know how many offers he has available to him, he could have 4-5. He may only have one (us)

This is a strange one for me this, i'd be happy if he signs and happy if he jibs us. Not really arsed either way.

I just hope the reason we’ve “won the race” isn’t because we’ve done something stupid like offer him £120k on 5 year deal.

I’ll take 3 year deal and reasonable wages for him. He’s going to get a premium as we’re not paying a fee for him.

Will back the lad if he signs as I do with all others.

This signing would have to be the exception in terms of age profile and wages I would think though, but I wouldn't have an issue with loan signings of a similar profile to get us over a hump.

We won't be able to rebuild the squad sustainably, and it must be sustainable, with this type of signing, if it was repeated.

Really it will have to be judged in the context of our business as a whole.
