But with the younger players you have to pay compo. And for the bigger name players youd be paying them 6 figure sign on fees.

Id take a look at a few of them though
Why would you be paying compo it just means you get the players for a smaller fee or else they will go on a free when the contract expires

Think its up to 23 you have to pay there club money even if you sign them on a free, and sometimes it can be a large fee
But in comparison the fee you pay when the contract is low is pence compared to the players value for example Liverpool were linked with Konaplayenko for 15mil last summer now you'd get him for 5mil with his contract expiring half way threw next year. Not bad for a 25 year old international winger

As much as I think Konoplyanka is brilliant, he'd still represent a massive risk being brought into this league. Russians/Ukrainians don't tend to fair too well. Shevchenko and Rebrov both looked the business playing for Dynamo Kyiv...

I would be delighted with Winston Reid on a free.

Not sure about what new talent is out there to sign, but Bobby, can we PLEASE, stop giving extended contracts to our geriatric players. I will start to get a bit peeved off if Osman, Hibbert, Distin , Pienaar, Barry etc are still here when your contract expires (5 years?).
The players I mention have no more than 3 years left in them. By all means don't sign any new players in that time, but if you delay it longer than 3 years (or, at a stretch, 4 years), I think our team will lack a little speed.
