January 2018 transfer window thread.

Baines is the best left back we've ever had. Ever

The only one you could make an argument for to compare would be Ray Wilson, and my arl fella loved Ray Wilson - even he says that whilst it's difficult to compare across eras, Baines is the better player, albeit in a less successful era

..I respect your Dad, but I have to disagree. Much as I love Baines, he’s not in the same bracket as Wilson. Let’s not forget, Wilson was recognised as the best LB in world football in the mid60s ahead of Karl Schnellinger. I always say Wilson is one of only 3 world class players i’ve seen playing for Everton. Baines is a little maestro of a footballer, Wilson was something else.

Pat Van den Hauwe shouldn’t be omitted from the discussion but we do digress on this transfer thread.

Sam Allardyce is planning to trim the size of the Everton squad before the end of the January transfer window.

The Blues boss is eyeing a maximum of two more signings this month following the capture of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.

But Allardyce says departures are essential if he is to re-work the squad as he sees fit with further exits expected following the £15m sale of Ross Barkley to Chelsea and Kevin Mirallas’ loan move to Olympiakos.

The futures of Sandro Ramirez, Davy Klaassen and Mo Besic are uncertain while Allardyce has suggested some of Everton’s younger players could be sent out on loan.

He told the ECHO: “There would have to be some exits, I don’t think there is any doubt about that because we’ve got about 30 players.

“Some of them are a lot of young talent that has developed and needs developing and maybe we might choose to let that development happen somewhere else on loan until the end of the season.

“But certainly, at the moment, we need to move a few players to bring maybe one or two in. I don’t think we need to think about anymore than that – maybe three – that would really good business.

“Whether we’ve got the capabilities to do that, time will tell as the window moves on but this one certainly was the most important and hopefully he will be a success immediately.”

Allardyce wants a left-sided defender and has said he would be interested in bringing Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi.

Makes sense regarding numbers, the 25 man squad was full with only 3 out so far.

in other words SELL to BUY.

whod have guessed it

They better be jarg.

Be arsed signing anymore Swansea players. This one doesn’t even look good playing for them.
I'd cry. Meanwhile the Everton dream goes back to square one

..he impressed me when we played them a few weeks ago. First time i’d had a proper view of him ‘live’ and he did actually stand out. Big but mobile with composure and attitude. I do agree with those asking about his pace but he had a good game that night.

How we haven't even had a strong link with a new left back is worrying?! There are many out there who are good enough who should be able to slot straight in.

Sandro is obviously a good player, scored goals in la liga last year. Think the premier league is just a bit much for him. Then our other striker....Niasse, one of the most frustrating players to watch. Movement is poor, lives offside and just doesn't look technically able to play.

We need to sell one striker and bring another in.

NSNO saying they have heard Vardy is due at FF tomorrow.

Cant see it myself, but think he would be good signing.

sideways step...although money could be a factor, still seems v unlikely

Vardy would be a fantastic signing. Don't believe it for a minute though.

NSNO love a good weaseling. They do it every window for the site traffic

@jinkyali has said Mahrez is signing for us.

Him and Vardy would be a coup to say the least.

Leicester could sell Mahrez to RS.
No way they sell Vardy in the same window too.
That would mean they would have sold Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez and Vardy since winning the league. Crazy.

I believe we just need to sell niasse to raise the necessary funds

Were not signing vardy...would be madness.
